When the Party's Over

Being a part of Gen X thought I'd check this out since I never seen this movie. It's remnants of the 80s decadence. I couldn't stomach how frivolous this movie was. It was a waste of my time. Perhaps if I was in my 20s decades ago watching this movie I would appreciate it more. I ended up not being able to finish this movie to even appreciate it for what it was. The story was about the young free selfish group of people who struggle through young adulthood. The ensemble of stars where solid, but the story lacked & didn't transcend time to curreny social climate of 2025.

I didn't finish it to even find out if there was a lesson learned from the interaction. I might give it another chance if I get into the right mindset to watch it. I'm rating it 50% since I only put it 50% & only watched 50%.

I don't like movies about relationships, so I didn't like this one. The main reason for watching this movie was Sandra Bullock. But she's not seen much. If you expect to see Sandra Bullock in an R movie, keep in mind, there are some sexual scenes, but absolutely no nudity.

When the Party's Over tries to capture that early-'90s twentysomething disillusionment, but it never quite finds its footing. You've got a house full of roommates, each dealing with their own mess - emotional baggage, career burnout, romantic dysfunction. There's definitely some potential in that setup, but the writing leans more soap than substance.

The cast does what they can, and there are a few grounded moments where you can feel the film reaching for something real. But the whole thing feels more like a made-for-TV drama than a meaningful look at post-college malaise. It wants to say something about growing up and facing reality, but mostly it just meanders through tired tropes.

There's a kernel of an honest story buried somewhere in here, but it's drowned out by melodrama and some clunky dialogue. Not the worst way to spend 90 minutes, but you're not missing much if you skip it.

A powerful and intimate look at success, friendship and sex in the 90's, 3 girls and two boys living together in an up market LA house, you see into their lives as a fly on the wall sort of film. MJ uses her looks and charm to manipulates everybody, even her house mates. but happens when the party's over?? Not one of Sandra Better films, but you have to start somewhere!.

I didn't come out of watching this movie very satisfied. Nor did I feel I wasted time. It was an interesting few hours spent looking into the lives of these characters. They were not well-developed, or necessarily consistent. Personally, I think the story would have been better off starting where the movie ended. There were late night chats that seemed to be thrown in for effect, but did not necessarily have continuity with the day's events. All-in-all, if you're a fan of Sandra Bullock or Fischer Stevens and like seeing actors early in their careers (or in some cases, the height) it's a relaxing, non-challenging way to spend time. Worth a watch if nothing else on and you don't want to clean the house or think too hard.
