Worth Winning was based on a novel of the same title written by Dan Lewandowski and published by Grafton in 1985. The novel was optioned by Mirage Enterprises, Inc. and A&M Films for $30,000 with an agreement that if the option was exercised the payment would be $300,000 plus a percentage of the film's profits.
Veronica argues with Taylor about a piece of music which she says is a legato. Legato are notes which are connected and played smoothly. While singing a legato, you hold one long note.
Pennsylvania locations included: the Manufacturer's Gold and Country Club, Society Hill, Fairmont Park, Boathouse Row, Head House Square and Old Swede's Church. After a week's filming, production relocated to Los Angeles, CA, where filming took place at the Santa Anita racetrack, television station KTTV's newsroom, a ballroom at the Biltmore Hotel, Occidental College, L. Magnin department store, and the Angeles Forest. The last three weeks of shooting took place at the Twentieth Century Fox studios on Stages 18 and 19. Sets included Taylor's apartment, Erin's living room and kitchen, as well as Ned's home.
