Umesh Mehra's Guru is a nice action film. It is interesting, well-made, at times funny, at times moving. It is not an extraordinary film, but wholly entertaining. Mithun Chakraborty stars as an aspiring police officer, and the film follows his story. Chakraborty does what he is best at, an angry and sensitive young man. Along with him appears a young and vibrant Sridevi in a surprising double role. She plays both roles with equal conviction. She is relatively restrained as both the traditional and religious Uma and the modern Roma. Bappi Lahiri composes a noteworthy soundtrack and one song that must be noted is "Ghayal Ghayal". Not that it is better than the other songs, I'm mentioning it because S. Janaki's fantastic rendition for both of Sridevi's characters in two different voices and styles is a great example of superb playback singing. Or maybe it's best to simply call it playback singing in the full sense of the term. Watch the film, it's a nice 1980s Bollywood entertainer, but do not expect anything special.

Mithun Chakraborty's ambition is to become an upright Police officer, but unluckily he is not getting selected. His sole strength is his lady love Sridevi. As Mithun's ambition fails, he turns to alcohol, dacoity, and thugism. He finally joins Amrit Pal's lethal gang to take revenge on the Police force, which blocked his ambition. Sridevi (in a double role), is Shakti Kapoor's important gang member. One day, Shakti Kapoor gets the confidential message about an undercover cop in his Gang.

Guru is a well-scripted and nicely directed Mithun starrer that is quite energetic with some good action, suspense and comic moments, which is mainly in the first half before it becomes a bit dramatic when Mithun decides to join the criminal gang headed by Shakti Kapoor. Sri Devi does well in a double role.

It's an enjoyable film that has some fresh touches to it. But Nutan is her usual brilliant self as Mithun's mother who throws him out of her house for lying about being a police officer.

Sridevi is double role , it was little similar to ChaalBaaz's , it can be made better had Sridevi given more screen space. Mithun is usual , mithun in this movie or any other movie at this time, its all same , no change in acting. It is Sridevi who carries the movie on her shoulders.

Guru Directed By Umesh Mehra is An Action Thriller Drama. It is Official Remake Of Tamil Hit "Kaakki Sattai" Starring Kamal Hassan. Script is Very Interesting, Screenplay is Better in The Second Half Though Movie is Bit Lengthy. Direction is Awesome. Dialogues & Action is Good.

He And Uma(Sri Devi) Are in Love. He Again Gets A Chance To Become Real Cop But Again He is Rejected By The Commissioner Himself. Angered By The Rejection, Guru Turns Into A Local Rowdy. He Comes in Attention Of A Notorious Smuggler Vicky (Shakti Kapoor) Who Works With Manu (Amrit Pal). Vicky Recruits Guru Into His Gang. He Comes Across Another Member Of The Group Rama(Sri Devi). She is Looking For Personal Revenge From Manu.

Acting Wise, Mithun Chakraborty Performs Really Well With His Hard Hitting Dialogues. Sri Devi is Fine in A Dual Role, Which is Similar To Her Later Released Chaalbaaz. Nutan, Shakti Kapoor, Amrit Pal & Sameer Khakhar Are Good in Supportive Role.

Music is Very Average By Bappi Lahiri. "Ghayal Ghayal" By Bappi Lahiri & Janaki And "I Am A Bad Girl" By Alisha Chinoy & Shailendra Singh Are Catchy Numbers.

Overall Must Watch For Mithun Fans. Action Thriller At It's Best.
