Rowena Cooper was credited as R. R. Cooper to keep her gender dubious for the first 6 episodes of season 1

About ten years after this series finished the writers resurrected the character of Alan B'stard again, this time for the stage. Rik Mayall resumed the lead role but this time the B'stard character had jumped ship and was now an MP in the (then) ruling Labour Party of Tony Blair.

The theme music is from 'Pictures at an Exhibition' by Modest Mussorgsky, written in 1874.

During the filming of the third series, Rik Mayall's hair was of a noticeably more auburn shade than usual due to the remains of the hair dye applied for the filming of ड्रॉप डेड फ़्रेड (1991).

The filming location for Alan's constituency is the market town of Knaresborough North Yorkshire.
