With more than 1.8 million tickets sold, Bomber was the highest grossing movie in Hungary in the year of 1985. The third biggest hit was also a Bud Spencer film: Occhio alla penna (1981), which sold more than 1.47 million tickets in the same year. The 2nd biggest hit in 1985 was जॉज़ (1975), with 1.56 million tickets. (The population of Hungary was around 10 million.)
This movie heavily borrows elements from Lo chiamavano Bulldozer (1978), also directed by Michele Lupo, written by Marcello Fondato and Francesco Scardamaglia, and starring Bud Spencer. American football from the former film is replaced by boxing in this one.
