Sam Wichner is thirty-one years old. He is due to marry Vera, his office partner at the bank, in two days. Maryvonne, a maid for Mr Teufminn, a diamond dealer, discovers him murdered after being robbed of a million pounds in diamonds. She decides to call on a detective to find the jackpot and share a hefty insurance premium. She turns to Sam Wichner because five years before joining the bank, he was presenting himself as a detective on advertising matchbooks.
A spoof on thrillers, it "s sometimes funny ,but marred by a muddled screenplay ; the plot is complicated, and lacks a good dose of black humor; the female cast is odd, featuring Andréa Ferréol , as a great fan of detective stories, who seems to live in one of the books she reads, Maria Schneider ,the star of "the last tango in Paris" as a smart fiancée and legendary Capucine , icy and haughty .It's the main interest of a so so movie,the male cast of which is rather limp.
