One of the Few Game Shows I Watched

I haven't watched "Wheel of Fortune" in decades. I'm happy to see that Pat Sajak and Vanna White have retained their jobs. If I'm not mistaken, Vanna White had to sue to keep her job after they wanted to replace her with a younger, newer model.

"Wheel of Fortune" was so simple and successful that they made board games, video games, and even slot machines. All it is is a high stakes game of hangman. Losing can be very embarrassing depending upon the answer and conversely it can be very gratifying as well.

I don't watch any game shows anymore, but when I did, "Wheel of Fortune" was in the rotation.

I'm crazy about Wheel of Fortune!

I really like Wheel of Fortune. I watch it every night. I think the puzzles are interesting and everyone seems so nice and it is exciting when people win. I think Vanna is very pretty and I like to check out what she's wearing. Pat sometimes says funny things and keeps the game going. I also like playing the Wheel of Fortune TV game. I've won several million dollars and tons of prizes. Not really, of course, but in the virtual world I did. It's fun. I usually play this game in the morning when my mother is busy getting ready for the day. I really look forward to it and it is part of my regular routine. I would miss it if I couldn't do it. I can't do a lot of things that other kids my age do because I am in a wheelchair. I need some interesting things to pass the time and this is one of them.

Television's spin of fun every weeknight

I have loved the Wheel of Fortune show, ever since Chuck Woolery first hosted it with Susan Stafford as lovely assistant; It was a joy to sit at the television and challenge your skills. There have been many changes to the show's original format, but it still is wonderful to experience a victory solving the bonus puzzle.Pat Sajak and Vanna White are a great team and make the show fun and exciting.Miss White is sparkling with her personality, and Mr. Sajak has a warm mannerism about him that you can trust. What is amazing is that this show is like the simple game of hangman!I think it is remarkable how a popular show came about through a child's game.I really Love It.

Same great show with needless extras

I watched Wheel and Jeopardy with my parents as a kid most weeknights. It's a fine show, and it's fun to play. What I don't love is the new "America's game" branding and Pat+Vanna touring America. In my opinion it's needless exposition and fluff.

Buying Vowels For Fun & Profit

"Pat, I want to buy a vowel." This phrase is almost as quoted as "One Dollar Bob" from the Price is Right. That is because this game show is only a little younger than TPIR.

Merv never intended for intelligence to be any part of this one. Unlike Jeopardy, you don't need to know a question or answer. This one requires just a special skill at solving puzzles with missing letters. Those that are good at it & lucky spinning the wheel make lots of money. Those that are just lucky should go TPIR & spin the big wheel.

This show is really the only claim to fame for Pat Sajak or Vanna White. Without Wheel, they would not have show business careers. It has worked out for both of them well. A lot of folks forget that Chuck Woolery was the first host of this.

Another thing is that it was a day time staple for 6 years when it first started. Then NBC tried it head to head against TPIR & it lost the daytime ratings race & became a prime time syndication bonanza. This show is food for the tired brain & food for the puzzle addicted.

Even when Pat & Vanna are long gone (as Merv already is), this could very well still be going. There will always be an audience for it. If it ever does leave the air, I'd be surprised.

Now in HD!!!!!

That show I like, and the show America likes, is bigger, brighter, and better than ever because it's now in High Definition!!!!! It's "Wheel of Fortune!!!!!"

Anyhow, Pat Sajak and Vanna White run the show and they are the perfect duo to take center stage. The game is played exactly like "Hangman," as Merv Griffin envisioned it more than 30 years ago. Here people spin for "BIG MONEY !!!," and prizes too, but watch out for "Bankrupts," "Lose a Turns," calling wrong letters, etc. and the player shall succeed!!!!! The person with the most cash goes on to spin the little wheel for a chance at cars and cash ranging from $25,000 to $100,000!!!!!

I am looking forward to seeing such a great season this year, especially the Dallas episodes. As a matter of fact, the Nokia Theater in Grand Prairie just wrapped up three nights (three weeks on TV) of shows a couple of weeks back. It'll probably be on in November, so I'll have my old-fashioned SD VCR ready!!!!!

"Wheel of Fortune" is the best game show ever made, and 6th according to GSN. Watch it, you will enjoy it!!!!!

Fun to try and guess the puzzles

I remember all the way back to the time when vanna white used to have to turn the letters for the word puzzles. I not a regular viewer of wheel of fortune so I have not watched every episode.

When I do watched wheel of fortune I like to try and guess the answer to the puzzles. And I fail quite often. I would not be a good wheel of fortune contestant.

I get emotional watching the show I feel the contestants pain when they hit bankrupt or fail to solve the bonus puzzle at the end of the show. I feel glad when things go good and a contestant solves the bonus puzzle.

I think wheel of fortune is an OK show. Not my favorite game show. Not my least favorite game show.

The most recognizable gameshow of all time.

Review re-written on April 1st, 2023.

Wheel of fortune is a simple gameshow based upon the childhood game of Hangman, where one person makes a puzzle and the player has to solve it by calling letters until they know what the puzzle is. However, in wheel of fortune, the players spin a wheel which lands on a dollar amount which they can earn in multiples, depending on how often the letters they call appear in the puzzle. At the end of the game, the contestant with the most money/prizes won, goes onto the bonus round where they can add a substansial amount of money to their bank.

It's hard to believe, but Wheel of Fortune has been on TV in some way, shape or form for 50 years now. I'm not lying. It began in 1973 as a pilot called "Shopper's bazaar" which was aimed at the female demographic. The game was played a bit differently. The contestants, all women, chose a selection of prizes before the game started and would have the wheel spin and tell it to stop and guess a letter in a puzzle. The show's theme song was, Believe it or not, the title theme from the movie "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang." However, it didn't catch on with NBC...yet.

Merv Griffin re-worked it into 'Wheel of Fortune' a year later but it wasn't exactly the way it is today. For example, in 1974, Vanna White was still in high school. So Susan Stafford was the original hostess and held onto that job until December of 1982 when Vanna White stepped into the position which she has had since, however, her hostess role has been covered by Pat Sajak's wife and daughter, Lesly & Maggie. As for the original role of host, It was 77 Sunset strip star, Edd Byrnes. However, Edd was rumored to be drunk on the set (which was a common trend for gameshow hosts in the 70's, even Pat Sajak admitted to hosting a couple episodes of Wheel of Fortune drunk during the early 1980's) but so much so that he ruined any chance that he would come back to host the show in the future. The host for Shopper's Bazaar, Chuck Woolery, came back to host the Wheel of Fortune throughout the 70's and eventually left the show in 1981, where Los Angeles weatherman & Vietnam war DJ Pat Sajak took the role over, and 42 years later, still hosts the show. However, Rolf Benirschke, Bob Goen, and Alex Trebek have all hosted the show, at one point or another.

Most younger wheel watchers might not know this, but the show had a showcase where contestants would spend their winnings on prizes after each round. This was dropped in 1987 and the show took on a more familiar format. Instead of spending their money on useless knick-knacks, the contestants got to keep their prizes in cash, and at the end of the game, got to choose the prize they wanted to play for. This continued until the early 90's when the 5 envelopes were introduced, and in the early 2000's, those envelopes were retired and the wheel of envelopes was introduced, and is still in use to this day.

Today, Wheel of Fortune continues to adapt to modern times and stay on TV despite it's aging stars. Pat Sajak will turn 77 years old as of October 2023 and I don't see him hosting the show for much longer. Even the recent video game adaption for the 9th generation of consoles doesn't have Pat or Vanna as the featured host & hostess (This is likely for 2 reasons; Sajak & White want more money than the gaming studio can afford, and having generic hosts & hostesses helps the game age better) As for Vanna White, she turned 66 years old back in February, and likely will not continue to co-host the show for much longer and be replaced by Pat's daughter, Maggie. However, shows like the Price is Right & Family Feud have been on the air for long periods and both shows have had long term hosts in Bob Barker & Steve Harvey, both of whom became as iconic as the shows themselves. This was the case for Jeopardy, with the late Alex Trebek. When Sajak & White retire, it will end a legacy.

However, as far as gameshows have gone, Wheel of Fortune has not only thrived throughout 6 different decades (70's, 80's, 90's, 00's, 10's, 20's) it has become a household name with far more staying power than any other gameshow has cared to, and to this day, still freshens up with new gimmicks and specials. Celebrities have appeared on the show multiple times. The show itself appears in many other movies, TV shows and pop culture. Both Pat Sajak & Vanna White have appeared in various movies & TV either playing characters or even themselves. This show is far bigger than any other gameshow in history and it earned that right.

Of all the gameshows that have ever existed, Wheel of fortune is likely the most favorable one of all time.

Very poor timing.

The producers showed a tremendous amount of disrespect to Pat Sajak by announcing his replacement a year before they needed to. The man has helped make Wheel what it is today and I think they should have let him have his glory year before announcing his replacement. Shame on them. As for the show, I watch it mostly for the puzzles and some of the goofy contestants and of course our genial host. Thoughts about his replacement, I like Ryan Seacrest just fine, he seems like a nice guy, but I'm afraid that's where the problem lies. He's a bit milk toast, I think they should have taken more time and found someone a little edgier.

My favorite game show!

This is my favorite game show on TV ever, from first catching glimpses of Vanna White turning the letters when I was a little kid to fully catching the show every night as a teenager for a few years. I've enjoyed watching the giant wheel spin and land on the many monetary amounts, special prizes and the forbidden "Lose Your Turn" and "Bankrupt" spaces - much to the contestants' delight.

Pat Sajak is the perfect host for the show - funny, witty and just an all-around affable person to be around with. And, Vanna White is a great, elegant hostess and show companion to Pat.

The hangman-style guessing game is easy to follow and play along, but it's full of suspense and thrills as you root for your favorite contestant to guess the puzzle and win the doe, or lose their turn or go bankrupt. There's much strategy to the game as well, from buying vowels to solving the puzzle at right moment. The $5,000 space and the $10,000 prize probably two of the best spaces to land on on the colorful, memorizing wheel.

It's an awesome and exciting way to win big money, and the audience "Wheel of Fortune" chant in every opening scene is a reminder that this show is indeed "America's Game!"

BETTER THAN EVER!!!

I remember when this show came on, The highest prize won was $25,000 in the bonus round. Now a days is 100 grand. And all the toss ups. I'm telling you this show is better than ever. And the theme song is pretty good. Unlike the 1983 "Changing Keys" version which was ugly and used too many synthesizer or the 1997 version where they jazed up the theme. I Like the new hi-tech puzzle board because it gives a more 21st century feel to the show. And the PRIZES!!! We'll What more can be said this show is better than ever before. And the set is cool. Better than the previous sets including the Ugly Sunburst's in 1983. Long Live Wheel.

Long Run for a Great Game Show

I only began watching Wheel of Fortune regularly a few years ago. I wasn't one for viewing TV shows every day but it was easy to get into a routine on this one. It struck me as an entertaining way of doing crossword puzzles but you feel more connected trying to compete against the guests. My wife and I watch it but others, young or old, can drop in and join the fun. The host Pat Sajak likes to entertain and you can see him trying to get laughs when he chats with the contestants after the opening round. Vanna White adds a splash of fashion as she walks onto the stage. Pat leads the chatting but it is clear the two are comfortable together; after all, they have been doing it together for decades. The two plan to retire after what must be a record run. It's incredible they have been doing this since the 1980s. It will be interesting to watch their farewell which will be coming very soon. Hats off to both of them for entertaining American households for so long and exporting the game worldwide.

It's Been America's Game for 50 years!

That's right, the wheel has continuing spinning for the past 50 years, and it's still going, albeit in a new era.

It started in 1975 on NBC Daytime with the late, great Chuck Woolery as host and hostess Susan Stafford.

It became a runaway hit for NBC, and by 1981, due to a money dispute, Woolery left the show and was replaced by Pat Sajak and by the following year, Stafford left, the lovely Vanna White joined, and the rest is history.

It continued to thrive when it debuted this current first-run syndication version, and even after 5 decades, Sajak and White have still hosted during that time until 2024, when Sajak retired after over 40 years of hosting Wheel, with Ryan Seacrest as his replacement, and he is doing a solid job so far, despite what some people say about him.

So, here's to 50 years of Wheel and hope for at least 50 more!

I like wheel of Fortune

Before I say this let me get this out of the way I am fine with Ryan seacrest hosting as of right now of wheel of Fortune yes he does not replace the OG Pat sajak but you think ABC is going to get rid of their money maker no it's like the same thing with Jeopardy CBS with the Price is Right and any other game so or popular show that is getting them money. What that said that's all I need to say I like the show as it is even with the original Pat sajak, Ryan seacrest and Chuck Wooley may he rest in peace. It doesn't have really that much of a problem on the show I don't know why people don't like it that much.

Ryan Seacrest and The Set Are Both Just Awful

I have been a "Wheel" watcher since 1984, but I'm going to quit watching in 2024. Seacrest is a bad host is seriously unfunny. I will definitely miss watching Vanna, though, and seeing her beautiful dresses. I am wondering how Ryan's "Wheel" ratings will be on his first week, or even his first year. The new set seems too sad and drab, as well, It doesn't seem to make me want to watch the show, anymore. So, I guess this means that this is the end of an era for me. I wish they would have chosen a much better person to host "Wheel of Fortune" than Ryan Seacrest, but I guess they were desperate!!!

LONG LIVE WHEEL OF FORTUNE!

I love to watch Wheel of Fortune! I sit at the TV at 7:00 p.m. and solve all the puzzles, even some of the bonus rounds. I like the way Pat Sajak talks when he is on the show. He uses that "Game Show Host" voice. It's really cool. I don't care much for the new theme songs though. They have ruined them. Wheel of Fortune has lost the theme song they are known for. It would be just as bad as if they changed the Jeopardy! theme! Jeopardy is known for its theme song. I hear people hum it all the time. Wheel of Fortune needs its old theme back!

Fun game show

First off, I must say that this is a fun game show. Also, since I am 24, I haven't seen every episode. However, since I have been watching for as long as I can remember, I do know the show very well. Every time I've watched it, I have a lot of fun playing along and watch. This makes me long to be a contestant. The things I like most about it are Pat Sajak, his occasional jokes, Vanna White, the puzzles, and the contestants. If anyone replaced Pat Sajak, I would be really sad. When it goes off the air, I hope some network brings it back so I can play along and watch again. If that happens, I will be really happy. Before I wrap this up, I'd like to say that I'll always remember this show in my memory forever. Now, in conclusion, I hope that you catch it one day before it goes off the air for good.

Ryan Seacrest *****

Every host in the history of Wheel of Fortune has a different personality. Ryan Seacrest is doing an excellent job and has continued to be a more relaxed and at home week by week. It was time for Pat Sajak to retire and have some fresh new blood on an excellent game show that I have loved to watch for years. They're always have been and will be those who look at everything in life in a negative perspective. Each individual has their own way of doing things and it doesn't make it right or wrong. I truly hope that Ryan does not give up and quit the show unless that is truly his own choice. He is a breath of fresh air.

Gets So Repetitive and Monotonous.

'Wheel of Fortune' one of America's biggest game shows is one I used to like but can longer stand. I can't be the only one that gets board with this.

The concept of the show is "hangman" but with a spin of the wheel to determine money amounts (must buy vowels) and which letter gets called out to host, Pat Sajak. Here is how it goes: *spin* "A." *spin* "B." *spin* "C." *spin* "D." *spin* "E." *spin* "F." *spin* "G." And that goes on until the contestant can solve, sometimes going until there are no blanks spaces, the contestant is just stupid. It feels like it just goes on and on to the point of nausea. There are 26 letter in the alphabet, but multiple puzzles each episode make it feel like there's more.

'Wheel's sister show, 'Jeopardy!' is also monotonous, but at least you walk away with some enlightenment. You learn things watching that show. "Fill in the letters" is not the least bit enlightening. Another huge game show is 'The Price Is Right.' That Show has a bunch of different things happening so that there is no monotony. Yes it is not enlightening, but it keeps things changing game by game. 'Wheel' consists of only two things: The drawbacks of 'The Price Is Right' And 'Jeopardy!'

The only good thing about this show is all of the trips it advertises. Vanna White, the show's model is hot, but is always shown too far away so her looks are a waste.

I do not recommend this show, unless you are with your family and you haven't seen this in months or years.

A game show staple that's fun bright and has great eye candy of Vanna!

"Wheel of Fortune" has ran in syndication and been popular and dominated TV viewing since 1983 and it's still going strong! As the show is a catch from the theme music to the production sets and just downright fun. As 3 players stand at a wheel and spin on various dollar wedges with value and they have to solve a puzzle(each one with a theme) by guessing letters, and the winner gets the cash they accumulated at the end after solving the puzzle.

Plus the hosting is in top notch form from the smart and professional Pat Sajak and the eye candy of the show making it a watch is the beautiful letter turner the beautiful model type Vanna White! Really this game show is like letter war battles for cash and the prizes are just fantastic. Watch sometime if you haven't as it's a tradition just like screaming for ice creme scream and cheer as the wheel is spinning!

New Show is Horrible!

First off. I am disappointed that they pick Ryan Seacrest as host. He looks too stiff and he's not very entertaining at all.

Also who in God's name designed the new set. It's very cold and not warm and welcoming like the original set. It is an eye sore to watch. Just no fun watching anymore. It all looks so hard and something from the 70's. Everything looks so pathetic that I feel embarrass for the Network. Something got to be do to improve the Show.

When Pat was the host on Wheel he made me laugh and I liked the way he connected with the guest and audience. That's my whole family opinion. Glk.

Splendid fun to watch and play along with

I always make sure that I never miss this awesome game show. If I'm not at home when it comes on, I tape it to watch when I get home. It is my opinion that it is one of the best and most exciting game shows of all time. It's always fun to try and solve the puzzles and to see the contestants win big cash and prizes. It's very easy to see why this show has lasted for so many years and I hope it stays around for years to come.

Pat and Vanna do a great show!

Pat Sakak is the perfect host for Wheel of Fortune. He has the perfect mix of witty remarks & empathy for players who have bad luck, and always says the right thing for every situation. Vanna is awesome at her job as well, wearing heels and lighting letters across a big stage is probably harder than anyone might imagine. This show is a great way to unwind after a hard day. I will be very sad when Pat and Vanna retire.
