This film was last released on home video in its full screen VHS format in 1992. No DVD release is scheduled, not even in widescreen, due to legal issues. However, Garrett Gilchrist, who restored The Thief and the Cobbler (1993) as "The Recobbled Cut", restored this film in widescreen and has put it on video sharing websites.
Didi Conn had laryngitis when her vocals were recorded. The actress was disappointed that her voice wasn't what it could have been during the song "Home," but director Richard Williams thought her hoarseness added to the emotion of the song.
The Raggedy Ann, Raggedy Andy, Topsy-Turvy and Sockworm dolls seen in the live-action portion of the film were made by director Richard Williams' mother.
Originally, the film was to be shot completely in live-action, but it was decided that actors playing toys would be a bit too hokey.
