In February 2019 independent filmmaker Orlando Eastwood unearthed Reels #4 & 5 to a 35mm theatrical print of the original "Bogard" cut. As per his research, the "Bogard" cut was only released on VHS in Spain. He is working on locating the first three reels of the "Bogard" cut and a film print of the "Black Fist" cut for a planned Blu-ray release.
Despite having a limited theatrical run in its original X-rated version in early 1975, Charles L. Hamilton, president of independent distributor World Wide Pictures, purchased the rights to the film and shot new sequences for a proposed sequel and was released in a re-cut version called "Black Fist" in 1977.
Despite the New Line Cinema re-release title being "The Black Streetfighter", this film bears no connection to Shin'ichi Chiba's series of martial arts pictures, including Gekitotsu! Satsujin ken (1974) ("The Streetfighter") and Onna hissatsu ken (1974) ("Sister Streetfighter"). This retitling was done only to capitalize on the success of the popular "Streetfighter" series.
