Brother of the Wind

This film set the tone for philosophy and outlook for many of the generation that saw this film. Very inspirational. A movie I'll never forget. If you're looking for a "fluff" movie, or a "no-brainer", this is not the movie for you on this day. However, if you are looking for a movie that will inspire you to think, look at the universe in a different way, and stretch your spirit, this one is definitely right up there.

The music sets your spirit soaring, and the theme song has stayed with me for over 30 years now. On the days I'm feeling seriously tied down or bogged down, I think of this song and I remember to take some time to re-connect with that part of myself.

I would love to see this movie come to DVD or VHS.

I saw "Brother of the Wind" at my childhood theater, the Lincoln, in 1973 when I was 7 years old. It was a fantastic movie and like many of the other writers, I remembered the beautiful theme song through the years. A long time ago, when I was still in my 20s, I videotaped the movie from television. I believe it was playing on WGN out of Chicago (or possibly TBS). Some movies translate better than others from the large screen to the small screen, but to be truly appreciated, I think this movie needs to be seen in a theater with a good sound system. The scenery is magnificent and the music is unforgettable. Immediately, the viewer is drawn into the story when, for some unknown reason, a mother wolf is shot from a low-flying aircraft. What will happen to the cubs? As the story unfolds, we experience the plight of the cubs with them. Families with children will love this film.

I was a child when I saw this movie - and the impression it made was HUGE. It always stuns me that it is not widely available.

It is a little odd to rate the movie, since I have not seen it in at least 30 years...but it must have been something to stick with me this long. It also has a nice theme song - very catchy and moving.

This is an excellent movie for children in grade school, and has, as best I recall, a reasonable conservation message. For any child with an interest in animals, especially wolves, this might be a good choice. As with all movies there is some "natural process" in this, so preview if you are concerned.

I saw a lot of "people-and-animals-meet-and-bond" movies of the era, but none stuck with me like this one.

This is by far the most beautiful film I've ever seen and I have loved it since I was about 4 years old. I've watched it countless times, as has my younger brother. The story about the old man who saves and takes care of 4 little wolves is so touching, and it is beautifully filmed. I also love the title song (unfortunately I don't know who sung it) and the music in general. I wish I could let my children, if I ever have any, see this kind of films instead of today's fast-paced and generally rather stupid children's stories. This film tells about love - love of nature, love of other living beings - in a way that is quiet and subtle, but still finds its way straight into you heart.

I REALLY hope someone decides to re-publish Brother of the Wind - it has so much to give and we need this kind of films, even today!

ADDITION made May 28 2008: I HAVE IT ON DVD!!!!!!

It's a transfer from a video tape, originally recorded from TV some 15 years back, but considering that the quality is surprisingly good, with steady picture and sound. It's subtitled in Swedish (not removable).

This was one of the best movies I've ever seen. The plot line was well defined, and there were enough interactions in the film to capture the viewers attention. It is hard to imagine anyone seeing this movie without being strongly impacted by it. I have also been looking for this film, but have been unable to find it...I'd LOVE to see it again. (This is a very good film for the whole family, and is one of those that will impact a viewer even if this is not the genre that they normally enjoy.)
