- Nancy Liggett: There's a lot your mother should have told you.
- Ed Mobely: I didn't ask my mother. I asked you.
- Ed Mobely: But I didn't do anything!
- Lt. Burt Kaufman: You think if you're drunk, it doesn't count, huh?
- Dorothy Kyne: [Patting the sofa] Sit next to me, Harry.
- 'Honest' Harry Kritzer: Nuh uh. I don't like the walls in this room. Look like they have sliding panels.
- Dorothy Kyne: Coward.
- 'Honest' Harry Kritzer: He's probably got microphones behind those pictures, too.
- Dorothy Kyne: Well you don't need to kiss me so loud.
- Ed Mobely: [as he's holding Nancy tight in her apartment's doorway] I should have a permit.
- Nancy Liggett: To kiss me?
- Ed Mobely: Hmm... an explorer's permit.
- Nancy Liggett: Do explorers have to have permits?
- Ed Mobely: They should have, especially when they're headed for uncharted territory.
- [Nancy pushes away from Ed and glares at him]
- Ed Mobely: Forgive me angel, I know not what I say.
- Nancy Liggett: Goodnight, drunk.
- Robert Manners: He's NOT my father. And you're NOT my mother!
- Mrs. Manners: Robert! You mustn't say that.
- Robert Manners: It's true. When you adopted me you wanted a girl, and your husband wanted a boy, and you were both disappointed with me. I remember when I was 8 years old and helping you dust the house and that, that woman across the way came over and said 'my my', and you said 'yes, I know, he's exactly like a little girl'. I'm not your daughter!
- Mrs. Manners: But you're my son, Robert, *and* my daughter, and all the other children I wish I could've had.
