In the original theatrical version of "Horton Hatches The Egg", there is a scene where Horton is on a ship, headed for America. He is still sitting on the egg keeping it warm for Maisie Bird, just as he promised. Then out in the water, a fish, complete with Peter Lorre-ish looks and voice pops his head up. He sees Horton sitting on the egg, says "Now, I've seen everything!", pulls out a gun, shoots himself in the head, and falls over dead.

For years, this scene was kept in the short, and was even part of the syndicated Warner Bros. cartoon package and was considered O.K. to air (In comparison, when the original Tom and Jerry shorts first made it to T.V., the voice of the maid was changed from that of a black woman to that of an Irish one in order to keep complaints low)

However, when the Cartoon Network got the rights to air that short, they deleted that scene from their broadcast prints.
