The opening building shot (model) is the frequently-used one that goes as far back as Female (1933) with Ruth Chatterton, though it likely predates even that film.
The shot of the car crashing into a tree and bursting into flames was used in They Made Me a Criminal (1938).
The top cast are introduced at the beginning of the film by their roles, newspaper man and torch singer, in the movie rather than their own names or the character names.
The film was based on the MacBride and Kennedy stories by Frederick Nebel that was originally filmed in 1936 by Warner Bros as a Torchy Blane mystery Smart Blonde (1936) with the female reporter replacing the Kennedy role. In this version, Kennedy is back but MacBride is now named detective William Ryder.
