While his face is being used as a punching bag by Brutus, Popeye grabs for a can of spinach on a shelf that also has onions, catsup, coffee, and a jar of "spice", but he gets the can of onions instead. Once everyone is crying from smelling the onion odor, the shelf no longer has any of those items on it - only jars and vases.

When Bluto pulls the "Popeye" cake out of the oven, it already has icing on it.
