One of three films made at Sun Haven Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida, in an attempt to re-establish Florida as a filmmaking destination. Chloe was the first of the three films shot, but the last to be released.
The production of this film, Hired Wife (1934), and Playthings of Desire (1933) were covered extensively in the local press. Because the presence of a film crew in St. Petersburg was such a novelty, events and mishaps that occurred during filming were frequently reported on, and lists of locals who appeared as extras were reprinted often. As such, this independent production's history is remarkably well preserved.
Some of the film had to be re-shot during the second week of June, 1933, after the original footage, which were all sent to New York for development, were lost in a plane crash. The Eastern Air Transport plane crashed into a ravine outside of Bowling Green, Virginia, on Sunday, June 4; the pilot, W.L. (Larry) Jamison, did not survive.
