Les filles de la concierge

Considered by Jacques Tourneur as his most important movie made in France, the film has not lost it´s charm today, 70 years later. It´s a story about three daughters of a woman concierge in 1930th Paris and their romantic involvement and subsequent marriage to three different man: an english banker, a shop owner, and a want to be taxi driver. With fine performances and a many comical moments this one is a must see for any serious buff of a french cinema, and a worth watching for almost everyone. 7/10

Don't come here looking for the strange fantasy and horror films the director made in America .

The first four movies Jacques (Jack) Tourneur made in France such as "tout ça ne vaut pas l'amour" and "Toto " are works which would not be handed down to posterity,according to the director himself

Like "Toto" ,it's a harmless unpretentious little comedy ,but very pleasant to watch ;mistaken identities abound and the concierge is wonderfully played by Jeanne Cheirel;the movie belongs to her : the feud with her colleague " who looks like a rabbit" are much fun; her act of a posh lady leaving for a swanky resort in the Alps is sheer delight ;there's the obligatory song, but this one is cheerful with a lilt to it ; and the movie features one of the best wedding cakes in the history of the seventh art ,to boot!

NB : Suzanne ,one of the daughters ,is played by Josette Day ,later the star of Cocteau's "la belle et la bête ".
