The Navy wants a new gun. While factory owner Harry Weaver is laid up at home with the gout, his manager, Brandon Hurst goes to draftsman Paul McAllister. McAllister has designed a gun according to the specifications. Hurst points out he's not due any money other than his salary. But if he allows Hurst to put a phony name on it, he'll pay McAllister $1,200 for each gun manufactured. McAllister, a scruffy-looking fellow, agrees. Hurst then goes to to Weaver and shows him the plans, saying the guy who came up with them wants $15,000 for each gun they produce. Weaver agrees, and then goes to pitch some unwanted woo at Weaver's daughter, Gail Kane.

It turns out that another design for the gun has been offered by handsome Naval lieutenant Bruce McRae. McRae and Miss Kane have met, and she likes his style of lovemaking. He offers to teach her Morse code, which will figure later in the story. Hurst and McAllister sabotage the production of McRae's gun, which causes McAllister anguish -- or perhaps he's feeling drug withdrawal -- but the thought of the money calms him. The Navy begins an investigation.

There's a lot else going on in this brisk, 50-minute feature. There's a sinking yacht, a daring rescue, and Hurst conks McRae on the head, tosses him overboard, and later opines that his disappearance show's McRae's guilt. But will virtue triumph in the end?

It's a brisk feature under the direction of George Fitzmaurice, with good acting and camerawork for the year. Despite its stage origins, it's pretty much a programmer, but a good one at that. Fitzmaurice would later prove himself a fine visual stylist and craftsman before his death at the age of 55 in 1940.
