I missed seeing Rick and Michonne

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live might be the best of all the spinoffs. I was initially hesitant about watching these spinoffs considering the last few seasons of The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead was so up and down (and the other spinoffs have been downright awful) but I've actually really enjoyed all three of the new spinoffs much more than I anticipated. This one, Daryl Dixon and Dead City are all really good. This is the one everyone's been looking forward to for years now. They originally announced a 3 movie deal about continuing Rick Grimes story that was suppose to happen back in 2020 but it never came. Then they changed it to this spinoff and I love it. Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira return to their roles of Rick and Michonne. I'm pretty sure this is only a one season show but I hope they continue to do multiple seasons of this like they are with the other two spinoffs because I don't want to say goodbye to Rick and Michonne again.

Flawed but worthy TWD spin-off

This could literally be just six episodes from The Walking Dead, making it perfect for anyone craving more TWD seasons. And best of all, we finally get Rick back after all these years. But I have to admit, at first, I wasn't sure if we got back the Rick we wanted-or if it would have been better not to bring him back at all. What we're given is a Rick so deeply consumed by his mental struggles that there may be no way back.

However, there's light at the end of the tunnel. After watching a couple of episodes, I thought the whole miniseries was a horrible mistake, but it improves significantly toward the end. I'd even dare to say it reaches the level of The Walking Dead in some respects. Part of that is due to the return of some familiar characters from the original series-it was so good to see them again.

From the very beginning, it's obvious they wanted Rick to resemble his comic book counterpart more closely, both physically and mentally. As a result, he undergoes certain changes and experiences that I honestly didn't like. If they spent all those original TWD seasons deviating from the comic book version of Rick, why suddenly make him more like the comic book Rick in this miniseries?

My three main complaints about The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live are Rick's physical appearance, his mental state, and the fact that this will clearly not have a second season. I don't think they ever intended multiple seasons, but it feels like they just wanted to keep their unspoken promise and bring Rick back after his unexpected departure-perhaps to set up a cinematic movie that may never happen.

While I personally prefer the other spin-offs over The Ones Who Live, this is a must-watch for TWD fans. It's the only spin-off that truly feels like a direct continuation of the original series and takes place within the same TWD universe. If the first episodes had been as strong as the last ones, this could have easily been an amazing spin-off. As it stands, it's good-but not amazing.

Comic Book, but Really

I didn't plan on leaving a review at first, but after reading some of the bad ones I felt compelled. Comments like, "this is not believable" made me go, well, this is based on a comic book in a fantasy world about zombies, so yeah...could be feasible; or comments like, "it started off strong...," or "rushed." Truth is the first time I watched this I shared some of these sentiments, but was ultimately glad for the closure.

I had been waiting for the Rick Grimes (RG) story since he was seen flying off in that helicopter. I quickly added it to my watch list as soon as the trailer dropped. I really didn't have much to look forward to especially in this political climate and found myself circling back around for another go.

Back to this being based on a comic book, which I read until the series seemed to go so far off it's own way. This did both the job of putting me back to a time when escaping into these stories was just that an escape. These days it feels like we're living in such unreal times this gave hope that something could change no matter how small you are or how insurmountable it feels.

I have tried watching the various spinoffs. Usually feel flat. Even found myself not watching the main series once RG was gone. The show had lost it's heart even with us knowing he was out there somewhere. It felt the same watching the Darryl Dixon series. It was only the hope that we'd get some more RG that kept me watching until Carol showed up. RG is a true lead. We followed him making insane choices, even being a dictator for a tiny bit.

Anyhoo, I guess it depends on where and when you're watching. Last year I would have given this a 6. Today it feels like, yes, we need to engage our moral compass and do something where we're not committing genocide for survival. Yes, even you can make a difference and that difference can have a huge effect. And yes, do this now, quick and in a hurry or we will BE the walking dead. So 8 it is...for parallels today and the hope and closure it gave.

Great start, mediocre ending

The first three episodes are incredible, and felt like the peak of TWD returned. Absolutely jam packed, great story, and gave that signature walking dead feel that so few other shows have ever replicated. Then the fourth episode is quite literally 50 minutes of only two people talking. Then episode five barely advances the story and is more focused on barely related topics. Then episode six is tasked with wrapping the entire thing up within a single episode after the previous two were essentially wasted. I think I watched Rick and Michonne make out for at least 10 minutes of the last three episodes. It wraps up far too convenient, and doesn't give a satisfying ending. If you like TWD you'll love episodes 1-3, if you only care about watching Rick and Michonne's relationship you'll like episodes 4-6.

While the series succeeds in delivering a powerful narrative arc for its protagonists, it falls short in fully realizing the potential of the CRM as a formidable antagonist

The worst of all spinoffs and the best rating?!?!

This is literally the worst of the Walking Dead series, and it has the best rating on IMDB, which I don't understand. Hollow story, bad acting, naive and unrealistic events. The Daryl Dixon series is much better, as is Dead City and the other spinoffs. The only spinoff I hope we don't see next season. Honestly, this seemed like a rushed happy ending for Rick and Michonne, so that the audience would be happy, and not be like Game of Thrones where they were disappointed because the ending was not happy enough for the wider audience. I wish I could write a little better in English to express what I would like to say that is wrong with this spinoff, as I could in my native language. The whole spinoff feels like it was written for 30 episodes and then someone came along and said to pack it all into 6 because they were in a hurry. I am disappointed. This is the only spinoff that leaves a bitter taste in the mouth after watching it, if we ignore the last season of Fear of the Walking Dead, which was also bad.

Good to see Rick and Michonne again

After years of waiting, it's finally here. The Walking Dead: The Ones Who live brings back the story of Rick and Michonne. We've been waiting for 4 years for this and it does not disappoint. This has the look and feel of a blockbuster movie. Rick and Michonne are two fan favorites and two of the main from the original. They ended up falling in love and starting a family and this show continues their love story. Andrew Lincoln (Rick) and Danai Gurira (Michonne) are as good as ever. Everyone who's waited for Rick to return won't be disappointed. This has the solid writing of the good years of the original and the great acting that made us love these characters in the first place. I can't say enough about the three new spinoffs so far. All 3 have been better than anything TWD has put out in year.

It's a good story for the fans

Seeing Rick and Michonne together for their own show was probably a dream for a lot of TWD fans.

The first episodes were amazing! Episode 1 & 2 were the best in the show and showed exactly everything it needed to.

Episode 3&5 were good but less good, these were mainly episodes to build the show, they were necessary and still fun (a solid 8/10)

Episode 4 was AS GOOD as the first 2 episodes it gave us an episode I didn't know I needed in this show until I saw it.

Episode 6 (and the last episode ) was the worst in this show, from what I feel was way to short for the finale.

It was around 50 min. Of rushing to get the ending the showrunners wanted this show. The last episode should have been made into 2 episodes or even 3.

This episode was barely a 6/10.

I gave the show an 8/10 and not higher because the last episode kind of ruined the experience for me.

More mediocre filler

They only had 6 episodes to write and still it's decompressed padding for the vast majority of the running time of this season.

Is this really the best they can come up with?

Was it really worth making?

The producers are to blame ultimately, as they should have sat on this until they received a pitch that was worth making a show out of.

Where they continue to find these writers who are incapable of a few lines of interesting dialogue or any idea of pacing, building tension, drama, relationships and pay off - I have no idea.

6 episodes of fan favourite Rick being sidelined for 3 girl bosses and some of the most boring episodes of The Walking Dead to date.

Please do better.

It is good to close this vicious circle, but

This was important to know Rick's mysterious fate in the middle of season 9.

But the way to end an enemy of this level and power is not convincing. I mean, Negin, who doesn't have planes and an exceptional security system like CRM, has been with them for 3 full seasons, and they turned against them in the middle of an episode.

I don't know what the reason for the rush is, the idea is there and the goal of completing it is there because of the mystery of Rick's disappearance.

I mean, they could have added season 12 and closed the story in the best way. It is clear that the impact of the legendary success of Better Call Saul is a problem for AMC and they want by any means to succeed with a spin-off series, even though the process actually failed in the spin-off series in 2015. It is the same series that the same channel tried to raise its status by adding Morgan to it. We, the followers of the main series, did not know what his fate would be, but even this failed experiment did not achieve the channel's goal, because Morgan is more suitable as an extra character than a main character. On the other hand, HBO is entering with a great series, which is The Last of Us. This means that she is able to take the audience of this type of series in favor of her series that is superior to them.

The Ones Who Live

First and foremost I would like to start off by saying that this new spinoff series in particular was quite extravagant in its own way because of the simple fact that this new spinoff series in the franchise had some incredibly insane stunts performed that I never ever would've thought could be pulled off so with that being said it was quite eventful and was insanely action packed. But this first season in particular made me realize that not only are they fighting for they're survival living in the dark world of the walking dead but they re also fighting for they're sanity. Because realizing that being in a world where I've seen the different kinds of people places and settings and the way certain groups that were encountered throughout the seasons of the walking dead made me realize that living in that there is so much more to living in the world of the walking dead then people understand. People go batshit crazy and loose they're minds, yeah they've survived the apocalypse for the most part but how many people can say that they've come out of the apocalypse the same person that they were when they first started out in the city of the dead..?

Must watch for any TWD fan

This Walking Dead spinoff is a must watch for any Walking Dead fan. It was outstanding from the very minute to the very last minute. This is a show where you can't be playing on your phone, cooking dinner or doing something else, it requires your undivided attention. It's a show that never gets stale. I can't remember ever being bored, even for one episode. I loved every second of every episode and I think you will to if you give it a chance. I've actually really liked all three spinoffs so far but this one has been my favorite. I've already watched it twice from beginning to end. It's as close to a perfect ending for Rick and Michonne that anyone could've asked for.

Mi serie preferida desde la temporada 1

"The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live" is a compelling continuation of the iconic series. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, it delves deeper into the struggles of survival amidst the undead. The character development remains a strong point, with each character facing their own moral dilemmas and personal growth. The storyline keeps viewers engaged with its twists and turns, offering both moments of intense action and poignant reflection on the human condition. Overall, it's a must-watch for fans of the franchise, delivering the trademark blend of horror, drama, and suspense that has made "The Walking Dead" a cultural phenomenon.

Strong start, weak finish

Michonne is my favourite TWD character so it's great to see her again.

The first three episodes are tight, but then you can start to see that it's written by actors, for actors. Episode 4 is particularly self indulgent. With only 6 episodes you just can't afford to do that. Might have been acceptable in a longer run, but in this case it threw pacing gains right out of the window.

Thorne is a great addition, love her. Perfect combination of steel and heart.

It's totally criminal that a great character like Nat was wasted. Right away he hit strong as a compelling and likeable character, I'd have like to have seen a lot more of him.

Off key

I watched this show because The Walking Dead is one of my all time favourites. Having just finished, I am left wondering why did this need to be made? There was no burning need to conclude this story. The beauty of the Walking Dead was that it was a crazy world and bad stuff just happens. Six episodes brought neither the depth of character nor the storyline longevity so it was really difficult to buy into.

It was great to see Rick again. He is just the same - 'a brave man' always fighting to do the right thing. However I always found his relationship with Michonne a tricky one, because they just aren't that suited. I always found her to be one of the more dislikable characters in the original. This was due to her constant anger and aggression, her inability to listen to anyone else, concede an argument or to reconcile a relationship. This was very evident in one of the episodes of this series which was frankly slow and dull - centring on one argument where nether characters would back down.

There are some good moments in this so if you are a fan then I would say give it a watch and make up your own mind. The effects are really good but almost too good and completely off key to the main series. Big budgets don't necessarily mean great shows.

And be prepared for the most ridiculous denouement where they decide "Right, we are going to find the xxxx, and destroy the yyyy - and effectively save the world" - all of which occurs in a single episode.

I am giving this a 6 but only because I bloody loved The Walking Dead.

Fantastic untangling of an open end

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live might just be my favourite of all the spinoffs. As one who stopped watching The Walking Dead original series years ago, I caught up on the last seasons as I heard there were spinoffs being made and one was about Rick Grimes. The acting was superb, the chemistry of Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurita stands out, and the plot was well designed. All the episodes felt like individual movies and were edge-of-seat viewings. All the cameo and new additions to the cast (Beale, Thorne) made this spinoff just that much more special. I could do with a season 2 for personal hunger to see more of these two, but I accept that there's a beauty in letting it rest here.
