John Leguizamo's Latin History for Morons

Equal parts performance art, stand-up routine and history lesson, the whole performance is him trying to find a cultural hero for his son to look up to by navigating the darkest chapters of American history. Leguizamo is absolutely brilliant as an every-man who thrusts himself into the unfamiliar role of a scholar, who strives to better his own knowledge of the past for the sake of his son's future, which makes HIM the hero in my book. 10/10 Stars, What a triumph!

I'm not even sure how to articulate all that this show represents. It so perfectly sums up the Latino American experience. Growing up Mexican American there's always that struggle to not only honor our forefathers but also finding a way to acknowledge and honor our Latin culture in a way that was more than just stereotypically Latin via our dancing, and amazing cuisine. I was truly moved by this special. He tapped into the part of my that feels always slightly underrepresented and disenfranchised by America. But also reminded me that inside my vains is the blood of warriors, mathematicians, astronomers, genius engineers, and tireless revolutionaries. This show should be required watching for all Americans.

I cannot articulate how fantastic this was. Educational, funny, emotional, and inspiring. John Leguizamo's honesty and humility makes his storytelling that much more captivating. Seeing this has inspired me to be more proactive in learning about my history.

I can honestly say that I hadn't known about the books that he mentioned, but this special has definitely made them next on my reading list! I've seen John on screen before, but never in the context of a stage - and what a discovery that was. The flow and pace of his performance is phenomenal. He overshoots just a little here and there, but his style of storytelling through the prism of many personas and cultures is hands down outstanding.

The bit where John tries to dance like a white man, in Trumperica, but fails after a couple of latin oriëntated songs are being played, is an instant classic. Another funny and heartfelt reminder, that free thinking only works, if everybody is included.
