Much of the movie was shot on location at an abandoned repatriation hospital in the southern suburbs of Adelaide. This was the Daw Park Repatriation General Hospital.

With funding from the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC), the shoot took place on location in Adelaide and South Australia and at the Adelaide Studios of the SAFC.

The nick-name of the quartet of old mate army veteran characters in the movie is 'The Chain Breakers' which was the original and working title of the movie. The group are played by actors Jack Thompson, James Cromwell, Roy Billing, and Dennis Waterman.

Australia is a long way to come for actors based in the USA or Europe, but for both veterans Englishman Dennis Waterman and American James Cromwell, the calibre of their fellow cast members was enticing.

Actor James Cromwell first collaborated with producer David Lightfoot when the latter was the location manager on Chris Noonan's 'Babe' (1995).
