Another great holiday treasure this year I found on the ION channel. To me A NEW LEASE ON CHRISTMAS was delightful, well executed, and humorous. Becky (Claire Coffee) is so effervescent and her plight is really her delight.
The budding relationship between Jake (George Stults) and his serving up warm "Cups of Joe/Tenderness" to Becky is really quite sweet. Stults always delivers relatable character rooted in truth, goodness, and sincerity. In this family film Jake is trying to save his generational family business; "JAKE'S COFFEE SHOP" in a Chicago like town. Stults is also dealing with the angst of being single dad, pending foreclosure, staffing issues, and the the dynamics of being a parent who's wife is gone during an uncertain time.(I so can relate) He tackles all of these life issues with great compassion. The Jake & Becky relationship is really a master class of the perfect "cute/meet" reminiscent of THE HOLIDAY. I love them together and would enjoy seeing more of there relationship in films to come. The other story lines are woven quite beautifully together. George (Austin Parsons) is hired to be a mall Santa and encounters a unique relationship with a Elfette NIkki(Liz Friedman). I enjoyed this story line so much Nikki the roommate to Becky is your non traditional edgy character not often seen in many cookie cutter holiday movies. Parsons is a delight to watch as he gives some of the most tender moments of his devotion for wild child Nikki. Rounding the story is of the real Kris Kringle in his last performance by Gerry England which was so beautiful to view. I enjoyed the psychiatry session between Doctor & Santa. Dr. Franks (Vincent De Paul) at first a non believer of Santa. De Paul shows such empathy and true counsel to the heart broken, love seeking, Christmas spirited community. I enjoyed his revelation in the end of the movie. Very nice twist. Lastly, Robert (Paul Wilson) is so wonderful as a real estate mogul and father to Nikki. The have their own father/daughter epiphany that makes this film a well thought out holiday classic. The end made perfect sense and wrapped up the conclusion very nicely. I look forward to Christmas movies every year and I personally enjoyed this film the most this holiday season.

The premise of this movie has potential, which is why I decided to watch it. But this is the worst thing I've watched on TV. HONEST question? Was this a high school project that got greenlit? The acting and writing is HORRENDOUS!!!! I'm convinced the people who are singing this movie's praises are relatives and friends of the so-called actors. So-called actors because there is no way these people are making a decent living doing what they're doing. I sincerely hope they have day jobs that sustain their livelihoods because acting "ain't" it for them. Absolutely horrible movie. HORRIBLE!!!!! But, if you need a good laugh or background white noise, this is the movie for you.
Wanted to hate this movie as I'm not a fan of the formula plot. However, this one has just enough naughty in it to make it fun. The roommate and her shenanigans were like real life. I did end up really liking it but was devastated to learn that Santa passed after making this movie. He was the best part of it for me because I still believe in him!
The storyline was good, but the audio was terrible. Who ever the sound engineer was should never be used on another film until they learn that music is supposed to be included in the background and not drown out what the actors are saying. I would have thought that before releasing it for public viewing, someone would have watched it and noticed the audio problem. Not enjoyable when you watch a movie and need to have your remote control in your hand to constantly lower and increase the volume throughout the entire movie. I am sure that other viewers must have noticed that this was a problem. Other than the audio fiasco, the film was good.
A New Lease on Christmas is another really unique take on an age-old format.
The actor who played Santa provided a brand-new take on the cinematic character. He grows on you throughout the movie.
There are very real relationships in the film, by realistic actors.
Everything was nicely wrapped up by director Scott, who has yet to disappoint to anyone who loves movies.
A new holiday staple!
