Tailgate

First of all I was very anxeous to see this movie. It was promoted to be one of the best Dutch movies to come out in a long time. However the movie is a big collection of cliches. Off course this is one of the basics of a horror/thriller but in this case it's just a little to much.

The characters have no real depth. The setting and acting aren't bad and it's nice to see some new faces in Dutch cinema instead of the regular actors you see in every Dutch movie. But it is noticable that they are trying to hard to act in a few scenes. Especially the thug. He's just a little bit to calm and correct to be scary.

The storyline is very thin. It would have been nice to have some background information why the bad guy does what he does. But even worse, the ending of the movie looks like they ran out of ideas.

It could have been a great movie. Now it's just one to watch and forget.

Dutch thriller movies tend to have a bit of absurdity woven into the plot, it's just their style. This one doesn't fail living up to such an expectation. It's definitely twisted, but it is scary, especially since the entire world is absurd right now and there are a lot of crazy people out there. I won't talk about the story itself so that it's a surprise for other viewers, but though it may seem ridiculous, it's quite spooky. Held my attention even with the subtitles and the actors were able to show fear pretty well, considering. I don't think anyone knows what they'd do in such a situation, especially because it's so unbelievable and bizarre, how would you know what to do? I liked it enough to finish watching and I cringed a few times, hence giving the score I have.

... he's the most annoying person I've ever seen in a movie. He really deserved what happened to him. It would have been a disaster if he hadn't been punished.

Yes, it's his role to be annoying and he does it perfectly. So much so that the viewer's sympathies develop in favor of the villain!

It's an EGO war that the father is waging.

He even puts the health and lives of his family at risk. With very bad decisions that can all be traced back to his ego.

His ego-focused personality shows itself for the first time on the highway when another car overtakes his car. He began to accelerate while the other car overtook him.

Then he meets the wrong person in the wrong place at the wrong time: A bad guy who punishes people like him.

The movie has a message. The ego is a poor advisor when it comes to making decisions.

The first two acts were better than expected. Well filmed, intense and thrilling.

But the movie has no real ending.

It's this kind of movie where you want to slap the characters in the face because of the poor choices they make.

Also, the killer has an insane amount of luck. There's no way he wouldn't get caught multiple times.

I've watched lots of movies with lots of really dumb characters. But the lead character in this film is the dumbest of all. Every decision he makes is completely idiotic. I feel sorry for his family because they have to suffer due to his really lame decisions. The villain would be much less threatening if the main character had any brains at all. Having said all that the film is watchable and entertaining on some levels.
