Many times the life is too hard to understand when you are so young and you become angry and isolated. Then there are family values which allows you to get recovered. This excelent spanish movie will show you how love between brothers overcomes life situations.

I liked this movie a lot but the title should have been Oveja "Sheep" instead of Seventeen. I recommend it to everyone specially animal lovers and mostly for the black sheep of the family. Low budget movie with lots of heart and a message of Hope.

A really solid Spanish film with a big heart. It just falls short of being something truly amazing, but it still very worth your time.
I love a good road trip movie, and Seventeen started really strongly. Who doesn't love dogs and the prospect of an inspiring feel-good story? It hooked me from the beginning, though lost its way in the middle half. Unfortunately, my attention started to wane, and as a result, the ending didn't land the powerful impact on me it otherwise would have.
The performances were good though, and I loved the whole premise. The scenery was spectacular and all the dogs beautiful! It's enough to make you want to go adopt dogs from your nearest shelter - or alternatively book a trip to the north of Spain.
If you like dogs, Spanish films and tales of brotherly love, then I highly recommend Seventeen. An easy watch with some smiles and a lot of heart.

This movie really took me by surprise. From the moment it starts it takes a hold of you and doesn't let you go until the very emotional ending, at which point this reviewer realised he was watching his favourite movie of the year so far (and it's almost November!).
The way it is filmed and edited is great, proving once again how much more advanced spanish cinema is than anything else on the continent, and that it can more than hold its own against large international studios.
The photography is beautiful, really capturing the beauty of small town and rural northern Spain, and showing us the very real world this characters inhabit.
The script is amazing, having you laughing out loud in one moment only to have you biting your lip not to cry in the very next. It's really entertaining and is only supplemented by superb acting from everyone who appears on screen, making you forget you're watching a movie at all. Both of the leads are outstanding and should definitely be at least considered for Goya's this year.
It's a really poignant coming of age story with a focus on the central brotherly relationship and family in general, so do yourself a favour and watch it already.
Another recommendation is to watch the original Spanish dub to really feel the way characters interact with each other and how natural they are, which might be lost in the english dub.

Young brother brings older brother back to life and reality during RV trip with grandma in tow. Sensitivity grew as movie progressed... Nice movie.

Héctor is a troubled kid. Isolated, introverted and yet fiercely intuitive, he finds himself sentenced to a juvenile detention centre after a string of criminal offences. Twenty-odd attempted escapes later and Héctor is introduced to a rescue dog in need of training. Across an unspecified amount of time, Héctor forms a strong bond with this dog and names him Sheep. Their friendship is abruptly cut short once Héctor learns Sheep has been adopted, and that his job of training him has reached completion. Devested by the loss, he flees from the detention centre and reunites with his brother Ismael (Sánchez) and ailing grandmother Cuca (Cordón) on a spontaneous road trip to locate his estranged companion. What follows is an extraordinarily beautiful film about brotherhood and reconnecting with your past while facing up to life's impending challenges. Seventeen packs two fantastic central performances by relative unknowns Biel Montoro and Nacho Sánchez. Both actors share wonderful chemistry together and their dysfunctional yet discreetly compassionate relationship is at the very heart of the film, driving it forward with bittersweet tenderness and occasional moments of casual humour. Arévalo and Sánchez craft a wonderful screenplay that feels genuinely human and relatable in its approach to sibling dynamics and family ties while not succumbing to overly sentimental territory. Seventeen is a remarkable piece of work that deserves much more recognition. It stands as one of 2019's most heart-warming films and is currently available on Netflix.

Full disclosure: I'm a sucker for movies about dogs. But I'm also, I like to think, a level-headed dog-lover, so I tend to be critical of movies that turn them into soppy love-sponges. The premise of this movie -- a troubled teen (possibly autistic?) is brought out of his shell of morose neediness by caring for an equally anti-social dog -- could, in the wrong hands, have yielded mainly schmaltz. Instead it has produced a wry, unsentimental, beautifully acted bromance -- well, I don't like that term, because it suggests Owen Wilson and Adam Sandler getting wasted together, but it's more apposite than usual, since it is mainly about two emotionally reticent brothers negotiating a fraught relationship -- the dog, in fact, is secondary, a kind of McGuffen to the actual substance of the movie. Biel Montero is irresistibly impossible as the ever-so-tough but emotionally fragile younger brother, and Nacho Sanchez counters perfectly as the exasperated, long-suffering but devoted elder brother. I particularly enjoyed his attempts to teach his brother what irony is -- a tricky concept, especially for a seventeen-year old with issues. There is also a hilarious performance from a prize cow. A gem of a movie. I watched it a second time to make sure that it was as good as I'd thought the first time. It was.
It is difficult for me to like this movie although the storyline is promising in the beginning. Later on, I feel more annoyed rather than attached to the story.
The main character, Hector, always looks angry and irritating. His face looks gloomy all the time and eventough sometimes he tries to make jokes, they aren't funny at all.
The brotherhood-relationship shown by the main characters is not compelling at all. Just bland. Anyway, I like the scenery which is nice and peaceful.

I decided to give this one a try as I have been loving films coming from Spanish cinema. This one just blew me away with how much heart the movie has. I would recommend you to watch the movie without knowing anything about it. Just dive into it and go for a journey along with the characters.

This was a surprise. The actors are very convinced especially Biel Montoro (Hector) love his character. Beautiful story about brotherhood. A journey to understanding and growing relationship, sometimes funny sometimes emotional and moving but have a good balance of both.

This is a great example of how a good director with a couple of great young actors and a beautiful natural background can make such a beautiful movie with no big budget but a great story. More like this, please.
A superb film. About coming of age, brotherhood, about family , about the angry of a special age. And about something more important. The cinematography , the acting are the fair traits of a touching story about precise definition of life . The basic virtue - great job of Biel Montoro. So, just superb.

Im not connecting with the main character Hector. I think he has Asperger's. He speaks very flat. Doesn't connect well except for a dog and grandma. He's supposedly really smart but is so awkward it makes me uncomfortable
It's missing a few things that makes it a brilliant film.

I don't have any siblings but I'd assume we'd all have that one sibling that will make us cry, laugh and furious at the same time but you wouldn't trade them for the world.
I really enjoyed this movie. It reminded me of Stand By Me in a way because of its (very) kindhearted characters, and because the movie is full of little moments that will make you laugh, and deep conversations between the two lead characters. Highly recommended!
What can someone take from this movie, with quite the unlikeable main character? At least at the beginning. Because we see other sides to him as the movie progresses. Without having someone to lean on, someone to look up too, without an aim - where to go? But even when you have a goal, do you stop when you reach it? Is it even your main goal? We will see - well I have already.
This is very nicely acted and the road movie adventure/aspect of it, works very well for it. There are adventures ahead and a beautiful story here - family. Don't we all need one? Not everything is happy go lucky of course ... enough of it is though - or is it?

A great film in a slow pace. Quite a few laughs and some heartwarming dialogue. This might be perfect for anyone who's tired of Statahamesque films.

This movie keeps annoying from the beginning until the very end. Granny script is brilliant, flawless... And the end is just too hardcore, he just needed to bark a little bit more and bite off his brother's nose. $&@# this movie.

It is good cast and good directing and awesome storyline. Everything just right and not too over dramatic. Hector cynical looks totally right for the cast given all his background. The story makes audience feel the problem of their own family issues, more or less. It's just beautiful. This movie deserved awards, Tarapara.
