O.J. Simpson was interviewed for this documentary in his Brentwood, California home six days before Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman were found murdered. Executive producer Steve Sabol decided to keep him in the documentary, saying, "His 2,003-yard season is one of the most dramatic accomplishments in the history of the game. What O.J. did now and what he did then (as a player) are two separate issues. It wouldn't be right, as an historian of the game, to omit one of the greatest achievements in the sport."

Arda Bowser was believed to be the oldest living ex-NFL player at the time this documentary was made, but it was later discovered this was a mistake. Ralph Horween, who played for the Chicago Cardinals from 1921 to 1923, was three years older than Bowser and became the first NFL player to live to the age of 100 in 1996.
