An incredibly moving film

I loved everything about this film. I thought the actors were dynamic and riveting. The cinematography was stunning and the writing felt authentic to what the every day life's events of a community held hostage by corruption, drugs and violence would be. I look forward to seeing more from this crew. Jaca stole a piece of my heart.

Immersive, heartfelt, stunner of a story that you will wake-up thinking about the next day

I saw this at the Tribeca film festival in the Bronx this past weekend. Let's start with the understated, but powerfully moving cast - I understand nearly all were folks from that favela. How the filmmaker was able to draw out the honest, intimate portrayal of their lives is incredible. In doing so, he has managed to completely avoid the typical pitfall of stereotypes that plague most presentations of favela citizens. As a result, we get to see a rare glimpse of a world that few know, understand, or acknowledge. The most important film I've seen in 2021.

Heartfelt, Intimate and beautifully shot in a favela in Rio

Paxton Winter masterfully shows the real life of real people who live in the favelas in Rio. The story telling is heartfelt and Paxton focused in it rather than in the violence, which is the center of movies about favelas in Rio. The film gets even more interesting as we follow the amazing performance of Tati, the teenager who is the main character of the movie. A must see.

This fantastic movie is made with very big hearts, courage, love and hope. The truth as it is, between gross and fine, poetry, guns, drugs, spirituality, psychology, botanics, ancient wisdom, politics, sexuality, philosophy...Watch out this director!
