Really tight story to tell. they succeed to maintain that itchy feeling for being chase by red and still maintain this warm summer vibe. The adventure feels really fun at the same time this story goes on. Every character seems doing a pretty good performance either.

Great acting performances from all cast members with Jaeden Martell stealing the show and a definite future box office top actor in my opinion.

Story was not that new but the photography, pacing and music all blended well to create an interesting and well directed drama come thriller!

Not much to complain about here. The acting is good, the story is good, there are likeable characters played by likable actors (Jaeden Martell and Keean Johnson) and a couple of 'hissable' villains (Alex Neustaedter and Daniel Zolghadri). The only trouble is that we've seen this sort of thing done many times before and there is nothing particularly unusual about this movie to make it stand out from the crowd. Even the soundtrack of this movie sounds like the sort of soundtrack all these movies have - all sombre cellos and slow strings. I couldn't help thinking of 'The Outsiders' as I watched this, though that is a much better movie and has the added benefit of coming first.

As I said, there is nothing wrong with this movie at all. It is done well and I enjoyed it. It just doesn't stand out.

Jaden again... In this day and age film lovers worship A24 as the gods of film (for good reason). Everyone and their mother has heard of Lady Bird and Call Me By Your Name. While these are great films they are far from "underground". Low Tide is somewhat of a hidden gem in the A24 collection, that is often overlooked.

Low tide is about a young boy who is taken in by is brother and his criminal friends to rob tourist's beach houses. In the last decade there haven't been any films released that capture the treasure hunting spirit of the Goonies. Low Tide is a coming of age movie that isn't rubbing it in your face. The "coming of age feeling" didn't hit me until the credits rolled, as a genuine coming of age film should. The movie captures a real feeling that isn't polished up and romanticized like many films like it.

I would absolutely recommend Low Tide to anyone looking for a coming of age adventure.

Story itself is not bad given the encounter and adventure of the teenage, at least not boring. And Jaeden act really make my attention focus on. A 17 yo boy can be that sophisticated is rare. Jaeden is going to be huge!

Dang, it was good right up til it ended without an actual end! This is one of those you really enjoy right up until the end and it's like a slap in the face of you just watched this for nothing! I want my money back! Really sux cuz it had so much potential, I take back my 5 and give it a one for it ruining my enjoyment of it! Shameful

Wow, I have to say... "amateur" filmmaker Kevin McMullin makes his first ever full length feature film (only one prior short film) as executive producer, writer and director - and nails it. Mad props to him for putting together this little gem as well as he did - as a newbie.

Sure this film had flaws, but to present something better than some seasoned filmmakers have come out with lately, makes those flaws barely applicable, and certainly not worthy of all the 1's and 2's some of the wannabe critics on here gave this great indie film.

His directing behind the camera was great, and he directed his cast perfectly. His writing was also on point, although I did want a little more at the ending. The screenplay was very well put together, the cinematography excellent, and the score very fitting. There were however some editing issues. The casting was amazing, and all performances were exceptional and convincing. These youngsters certainly have a great future in acting ahead of them. Although I'm not a fan of slow paced films, this one was just right with its 84 min run-time.

This was a surprisingly very impressive low budget indie from an amateur filmmaker, and considering as such, is well deserving of my 8/10. If anyone questions my review as fake, click my username to see my 1000+ ratings and 700+ reviews.

I look forward to seeing more from Kevin McMullin and his young stars - perhaps a part 2?

Not bad. It is more drama than thrill but it had a steady tension throughout. It is filmed well with some of the scenes being visually appealing. It has a steady but slow pace. I am not familiar with the actors but they held their own.

I wasn't crazy with how the film ended simply because I am detail oriented, felt like I was left with questions and was wanting more. All in all though, not a bad watch.

I'm a bit of a sucker for dark adolescence-based thrillers. Growing up 'Mean Creek' was one of favourite guilty pleasures. 'Lord of the Flies' also had a place on my favourite films list. While 'Low Tide' can't quite live up to either of those two films, it still was a very decent effort, particularly for a first time writer/director. The story is simple, but not in a bad way. The simplicity of it gives the characters more room to flourish and also more room for the tension between them to escalate. This is certainly a film more about the characters than the story.

It feels like Jaeden Martell is in everything at the moment. After releasing nothing in 2018 he had a massive 2019 and now his television series 'Defending Jacob' has just finished. I'm not sure you'd call him the main character in 'Low Tide' but he certainly has a lot of screen time and a lot to do with the story. He's a very watchable actor who never steals scenes or takes away from other actors on the screen. He's clearly someone who filmmakers will be looking to sign on often in the future. In fact the whole cast of 'Low Tide' impressed me. There wasn't a weak performance in sight and everyone played off each other wonderfully.

The only thing this film was really lacking was some X-factor. It never had that moment that takes your breathe away. There are some tense scenes scattered throughout, but not one that stands out above the rest. Otherwise though 'Low Tide' is reasonably hard to fault. I recommend giving this one a shot.

All the characters in this '70s/80s growing up in a small town' story were interesting and well rounded and believably delivered by a strong cast. It was supposed to be new jersey but it could and should have been small town nowhere as someone got upset about it not accurate representing that specific location. The story was pretty good, but not really the triumph of the movie. It covered territory we've seen many times before but the main thing was how well painted it was. it looked good, sounded good (great musical score), and interesting characters well acted, I might have mentioned that already. There's 2 brothers and their dynamic is warm, and a bad egg, (who we never really get to know, he's just bad for some reason), the girl (cool, cute, likeable and smart) the sheriff (ahead of the curve firm but cares), and creepy offsider playing both sides, etc etc. I did enjoy it and I liked the open ending which shows the damage done and leaves it there for us to consider the cost. If it had gone any further then what did it really have left to tell us for this film? A part 2 is definitely possible but with some of the actors becoming stars already it won't be so economical to make the next one. Credit where credit is due, a well made and well acted small story. Don't think too much about the basic plot (there aren't any holes or anything, it's just a pretty simple story), and enjoy the acting and atmosphere.

One of the better movies I've watched in a while. It was just too short in my opinion. It definitely could of went on for another 20 minutes. 7 stars.

I recently watched this tidy little thriller on cable. It is about 4 teenage friends living on the Jersey Shore who rob houses of vacationers. But then they decide to rob the house of a deceased local and find a cache of gold coins. Naturally, jealousies and betrayals ensue (remember "there is no honor among thieves"). Direction and photography are very good for a low budget film. And it is well acted by Jaeden Martell (of "Defending Jacob"), Keean Johnson ("Eurphoria"), Alex Neustaedter ("American Rust", and Daniel Zolghadri. Of the four Jaeden Martell's performance is the best without stealing the show from the other actors. Also stars the dependable Shea Whigham as a local cop. While not a perfect film, it is definitely a very good effort from first-time writer-director Kevin McMullin. 7/10.

I feel people are extremely harsh on this movie because it holds a mirror to the viewer's face and it makes them uncomfortable. The movie in essence wants to be parabole on how the love of money corrupts, and how moral relativism which drives our entire world is made to look small and puny in the face of actual altruistic good. To do so with demonstrates that unfortunately too often, the passage into adulthood is driven by tragedy.

Starting off as a seemingly innocent coming of age narrative, it quickly turns into a series of quick backstabbings and a thriller where you would be forgiven for forgetting the actors are children. And that's the whole point.

On the negative side, it is easy to feel that the four main characters are a little bit generic, but the director has the intelligence of introducing some subtlety to the story which as a whole does not paint a very pretty picture of the human condition. It plays with our emotions and by the third half of the movie you get this clear sense that no one can be trusted anymore, but doesn't fully actualise on it.

I also feel that the Peter character may have been destined in the initial script to represent a completely pure soul, maybe even going as far as drawing biblical allegories, but again that's not fully realised and you can sense that something is missing halfway through.

The movie rushes it's ending, almost as if they had that scene in mind from the very beginning and wanted to get to it as fast as possible to fit within the usual one and a half hour envelope. It's a shame because with an extra hour to it it could have been truly special. Sadly while it hits some right notes there are a few niggling problems with it that prevents it from reaching the cinematic heights I expected.

Sure for an A24 movie, this is no 'hereditary' or 'enemy'. But it still stands heads and shoulder above the other offerings on most streaming platforms.

Man, I HATE movies where the writer just leaves you with an inconclusive end. It's like the writer is saying "I wrote and wrote and wrote... so I was burned out before I could write a good ending". This movie muddles along and is about 200 of the same movies rolled into one. Acting was absolutely fine, but the story was a cookie cutter format of 1,000 movie like it.. but with NOTHING special to make it stand out, nor anything about it to make you say "Wow!! THAT was creative, different, and exciting!" Then, to make the whole thing worse, it had a "and so it goes" ending. In other words.. Don't expect an ending! Besides not having a creative, unique, or cool ending with a twist, there were absolutely MAJOR holes in the story. With the rating it had, I expected better.. but I've come to the conclusion that some people that make movies STACK reviews to jack up viewership. This movie was LAME!!

Low Tide is just decent. It's very enjoyable and is better than most of the decent A24 films. The plot is fine, but where it messes up is with all the subplots. There's too much going on at the same time, all the subplots feel tacked on. Especially the romance aspect. Even then, the romance just feels rushed. It isn't pointless, but it's not necessary. Some of the character choices feel unwarranted at times, this could've been improved if the exposition had been more focused. There are also a bunch of minor issues I had, but they're not really worth mentioning. This film despite being enjoyable isn't the best. I rate Low Tide a 7/10.

Slow burning movie that it does not goes anywhere. Just a bunch of kids stealing houses and finding a treasure. Boring, bad acting and awful script.

Well crafted indie flick with fun acting and some great twists! Enjoyed the heck out this one. Read a Washington Post article out of Tribeca that said this was only an $850k budget. Rare to see well directed stuff at this level. Reminds me of "Brick". Curious to see McMullen's next one.
