30 Miles from Nowhere
Directed by Caitlin Koller. Written by Seana Kofoed
30 Miles From Nowhere is about a group of old college friends who get together for one of their friend's funeral. They gather at his home with his wife who seems just a bit off. There is a ton of strife lingering from their past and it along with the inclement weather is threatening to explode. Things are not quite what they seem.
That's the basic gist of the film without going into depth too much. This is a movie that thrives on relationships. It plays on slights and how things used to be. Any progress made in the ensuing years is swept away as they regress to their college selves. Those people are the absolute worst.
Once I made it to the end of the film, I figured out that was the point. The point was to expose these toxic monsters for what they were. That doesn't make spending time with them any fun. That's the entire point of the film. There is nothing else but spending time with these psychotic garbage people. I just wanted the worst things to happen to them. I wanted Jason to hop over from another movie and just lay waste to these folks in the most gruesome fashion possible.
I suppose there might be some humor to see these assholes tear at each other exposing old wounds. That only goes so far though. Each one of them with the girlfriend stealing playboy being the worst of the bunch drag nails on a chalkboard in my brain. The filmmaking is fine. A lot of the time it really becomes a case of solid filmmaking backing a terrible idea for a movie. There doesn't necessarily need to be a likable character for there to be a gateway into the story. There just can't be an endless parade of jerk offs. I need some empathetic or even just charismatic lead. We get none of that.
If that sounds up your alley, then go for it. It is available on both Shudder and Tubi with commercials. I was annoyed by the people and there were no real laughs or scares coming from my end. It's just not a good flick. I give this movie a D.

30 Miles from Nowhere (2019) is available to stream for free on Amazon Prime. The story follows a group of former college friends reuniting after years apart to attend the funeral of one of their own. They decide to stay at their late friend's house to reminisce, but it doesn't take long for strange events to unfold, people to go missing, and doubts to arise about whether their friend is truly dead.
This film marks Caitlin Koller's directorial debut and features a cast including Carrie Preston (Claws), Rob Benedict (Supernatural), Rusty Schwimmer (The Perfect Storm), Cathy Shim (Reno 911), and Birgundi Baker (Empire).
The storyline is straightforward and riddled with clichés. While the acting is uneven, the widow delivers a standout performance. The group dynamics feel inconsistent, and the dialogue is often frustrating. However, the kill scenes are well-executed and add some entertainment value. Unfortunately, the ending is as predictable as the rest of the movie.
In conclusion, 30 Miles from Nowhere is an average film that isn't a complete waste of time but isn't essential viewing either. It's worth a watch for horror die-hards. I'd rate it 5/10.

Honestly, the most unpleasant people I've ever tried to watch in a film. Plus,!!, the dialogue is often hard to understand, just rubbish. How this film gets anything beyond one star is a mystery, other than people involved in the production.
Annoying characters who one couldn't care less about. Poor acting. Cliche story. The Wisconsin wilderness is not scary xD It could be if executed properly on film, but this is just a bunch of privileged, helpless idiots running around at a lake place.
Bad addition to the "cabin in the woods" theme.

"The sink won't drain, so go check the well." Seems to me that the writers didn't do any research for this movie.

At first I thought I was watching The Big Chill, but it eventually rolled into something else. Something I was not expecting, so I guess I'll give it credit for sneaking up on me. There were a few comedic moments to break the tension, but I wouldn't label this a comedy at all. It's a drama with a dash of horror, and a sprinkling of Sci-Fi. The acting was as good as the script would allow, and considering the direction it was going, it was more than adequate.
This is the kind of film that isn't for everyone. I didn't regret watching it.

When a movie is really good it just doesn't need fake reviews. This movie has alot of fake reviews, from people that only reviewed one movie and nothing else ever, and it's necessary because that's the only positive you're gonna read about this movie. The good thing about fake reviews is that they score it a ten star because somebody asked them to but they are too lazy to write more than two lines about the movie. 30 Miles From Nowhere is exactly where this movie should have stayed, far away from civilisation, so nobody else has to endure this waste of time. Very poor script, no suspense at all, about everything seems to be done by amateurs.

I'm not sure what's going on with all the haters among these user reviews, but this is a pretty darn good movie. It's an independent film, surely low budget, without a major studio behind it. It looks like it was filmed entirely on location (and maybe only two locations at that). So, no, guys, you're not going to have the editing and cinematography of a Titanic.
What you do have is an engaging story that's well acted and hangs together throughout. There are some good scares and some big laughs. I did not see the ending coming and I really think anyone claiming they did is either lying or lucky. The best part of this movie, though, is the gradual development of the characters and the relationships they had (and have) with each other -- and how this affects the plot. That's an impressive feat in a relatively short thriller movie.
This movie holds your interest and it's fun. It easily rates 9/10 on an indie film scale. If you've got ten bucks and ninety minutes to spare, it will be time and money well spent. Sit back, relax, and enjoy!!
(ps, check out the critic reviews)

It was definitely a psychological thriller. I enjoyed the movie and the plot line. I am a huge fan of Rob Benedict and enjoyed his performance very much. It was creepy!

Well what can I say? There was absolutely nothing good in this movie. The acting, story line, dialogue, even the characters were absolutely unlikable and forgettable. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time with this movie.

Complete waste of time, storyline was sketchy, acting was below average and ending was as dull as s butter knife. Very easy to see that any review greater then maybe a 5 has to be faked! Do yourself a favor and pass on this film...

I know the idea of writing characters that you don't like and want to die is pretty common in horror, but holy crap. They went for the annoying factor so hard that you'll wish the house they're in blows up after the first 30mins. If for some reason you decide to stick around for another hour of their whining and moaning, you'll be in for the dumbest, nonsensical plot twist you can imagine. And nope, you'll never get that time back.

30 minutes in and I can't take it anymore. An incredibly boring movie with no plot whatsoever. Just a bunch of obnoxious, self absorbed people talking nonsense. I couldn't follow anything that was happening.
Nothing to see here.....move along.
Non stop fun!
Lots of action and Sylvia is a great "wack-Job"! An unfinished study is a worthless one! You can say Sylvia had some cabin fever!

Ok, the acting was not that awful, just horrible writing, so that's 1 star. The cinematography was fine, that's 2nd star. This was not a comedy even tho billed as such. Not horror or even thriller. it was just a predictable muddled drama. This definitely HAD the potential to be a really good film. It was destroyed by abysmal writing. This film doesnt come close to "genre bending". It didnt take very long to "guess" what was really going on with the plot and where it was heading. Watch "The Invitation" instead.
A solid, well made film. Some of the dialogue is kind of cheesy and the actors talk a little too fast at times, but it's a pretty enjoyable watch. The effects are great, the cinematography is great, the acting is solid. My only gripe is that the foreshadowing is a little heavy and I figured out what was going on in the first 20 minutes. I recommend this movie, though. It's pretty damn good.

I'm going to start this review the same way I start every single one of my reviews. I love horror movies, and I grew up with them since I was a little kid.
I'm currently watching Peacock and going in order by the horror genre.
I have seen this movie more than once. I enjoy it. It's not The best movie but I remember watching it for the first time and it's one of those movies where I'm actually could not figure out what was going on until the end. Usually when I watch movies I know exactly what's going to happen within the first 15/20 minutes.
Everyone's acting was incredible. I just didn't like the character Larry, That Rob Benedict played. His character just annoyed me to be honest. The other character that annoyed me was Paul played by William Smillie. I really don't think his character was really needed except for one little part, but they could've just mentioned it.
I definitely would recommend this movie. Especially if you like psychological thrillers, Because that's what I believe this movie really is.

This movie had some potential but when you don't care about the editing or acting...this is what happens. What a waste of time. And of course the first few reviews were 10/10, Excellent !! Outstanding!! ...give me a break! A sad piece of acting and editing.
