What was that?

I kept waiting for something to actually happen the entire movie, but it never did. Maybe it's a special form of cinema art that only select few will appreciate. To me, it's just a bunch of nonsense. I feel like I was lied to. I had no expectations going in other than "the plot is good" based on the reviews and the trailer. But even that bar was set too high.

In addition, you may start twitching from all the flashing in the movie even if you're a healthy person. That's one thing I'll remember about this experience: "it was a movie with a crazy amount of flashing".

The trailer is very misleading. Or, rather, it's very truthful in the sense that it 100% reflects the movie. What you see in the trailer is exactly what you see in the movie. Imagine replaying the trailer 60 times in a row and, voila, you got the entire movie.

I've seen movies where all events happen inside of 4 walls. It's all about the clever and evolving dialogue, good acting, interesting story that hooks and reels you in. In Catalyst you'll find none of that.

I've been scammed by 10/10 ratings

This movie is terrible. So many stupid synthetic voices and visual cruft. No amount of echoed voices, black and white scenes and broken bike (hologram device) helmets can cover up a pretentious waste of time.

Ignore below character count padding.

Hidden Christian Flick, pretty clear by halfway through. Horrible writing, boring AF.

Yeah, very clearly a Christian flick with the 10 star reviews posted by dedicated members of the flock. Repent now. Fight for God's world.kill for peace and justice. Wake up, this is the messenger speaking, you have been chosen. And that's pretty much it. I don't mind Christian flicks but these hidden ones are pretty disingenuous.

Is this some kind of joke?

Once upon a time, when there were video stores, there was, on the shelves, an arrangement of films by genre, but also by popularity. And then, in every video store, at some point, you had a shelf on which there were random movies, which, due to bizarre circumstances, were found in the video store and on which there was a thick layer of cobwebs, because no one ever rented them. Under that shelf, there was often a box with "art" even worse than the one on the shelf in the corner, waiting for the worker not to be too lazy and to finally take them to the dumpster. This, at best, deserves a position in a dumpster-ready box.

There is no way to describe how bad this movie is and how it manages to fail in every possible area. The scenario is catastrophic. For more than 90 minutes of the film, there is practically no action, no meaningful activity. The dialogues are completely meaningless, illogical and so badly written that it's not even funny. A special category is the content of "guardian" sentences, places and the way they are pronounced. The directing is below every category of professionalism. It is especially bizarre that this is a film that supposedly explores essential themes, human interactions, etc. Absolutely laughable. Don't be fooled by the many scores reviewers have given the film.

If you look a little, you will see that only one high rating was given by a reviewer who previously had a comment on IMDB. All other scores and revisions were given by auditors for whom it was the first review, most likely members of the film crew. Skip this nonsense and don't put yourself in a situation where you irretrievably lose ninety minutes.

Deeply Unserious Shlock

I had to make an account JUST to review this movie. What's been more entertaining than the movie is coming to read some of the 10/10 reviews and doing some research on the creators.

The movie opens with a quote by "Shaman Durek" who, I've discovered, is an "American conspiracy theorist, convicted felon, alternative therapist, and self-professed shaman as a practitioner of Neoshamanism. " which is, to put it mildly, a hysterical way to open your movie.

The story follows a guy named Alek who we see preparing to murder a priest. He fires a shot, leaves the church and is preparing to commit suicide when masked men taze him and pull him into a white van.

They tell him some cryptic things we will hear over and over again throughout the movie. We will keep flashing back to things that previously happened revealing more context each time, or sometimes revealing absolutely nothing new. They were perhaps assuming that since the target audience is your average Joe Rogan listener that they need a reminder of what they saw five minutes ago.

Alek wakes up in the desert next to a car. He finds a jumpsuit in the trunk and puts it on. A phone rings on the ground and he picks it up. A couple of robotic voices give him instructions which he proceeds to not follow and gets tazed again.

Now he wakes up in a room with a bunch of other guys. They're given instructions to "kill the parasite among you" within 60 minutes or they all die. They've been fitted with fancy shock collars and theres some kind of forcefield separating them from their masked captors. They argue for what feels like forever and somehow none of them try to kill one another despite them all being extremely volatile individuals with sordid pasts.

It basically turns into a group therapy session somehow. By the end of the sixty minutes they are taking turns around the circle, confessing their sins and offering words of encouragement. It makes absolutely no goddamn sense and feels extremely forced. I was laughing at the dialogue and pacing of the whole thing.

The camera would NOT stay put for one second. Gratuitous use of digital effects for the tazers, forcefields, computer terminal overlays, etc. The actors were often speaking over each other, seemingly trying to mimic "real" conversations but instead feeling like a badly rehearsed stage play. CONSTANT cuts between them wearing some kind of holo-helmet, past events, current events, reiterating points over and over again that had already been established.

About halfway through the movie, I had "gotten the point" about a dozen times already and was waiting for there to be something, ANYTHING else added to the story or themes. I could see them leading up to a twist but it was telegraphed from a mile away and had essentially no substance.

The thesis of the film is stated from the get go, but it is hilariously summed up at the end when Alek speaks to the organizer/architect of the whole program, group, whatever you want to call it. She LITERALLY quotes the freaking two wolves story. "There are two wolves and they are always fighting. One is darkness and despair, the other is light and hope. Which wolf wins? The one you feed"

Basically their organization kidnaps people and forces them under duress to either become better people or die/be imprisoned forever. And this is unironically offered as an ideal scenario for entering a new and better era of humankind.

Anyways steer clear of watching this if you want something good. If you like bad movies, it might be fun in a group-watch setting but even then I find it too boring to recommend.

Must see indie film of 2025!!!!

The movie delivers a powerful message that those "in power" keep us divided, using our traumas and fears against us. When will we realize this is the real plot?

Stunning cinematography and seamless special effects heighten the drama, while the music deepens the emotional impact, amplifying tension and urgency. Every element works together to immerse the audience in a gripping, thought-provoking experience!

Timely and necessary, the film serves as a wake-up call, urging us to recognize the forces manipulating society. More than just entertainment, it's a reflection of reality and a call to awareness. A must-watch in today's world. Great film and a true piece of art! Don't miss it!

Totally awesome movie!

Totally amazing! A thinker movie that fits times before and now. You can't miss a minute of it ! Makes you think about choices in your life and how to be the catalyst for change. How that needs to be in the world today. Michael Roark & the other actors, how they worked and played off of each other was awesome. They keep your interest and made you think with them.

And you were with them to try to solve the questions posed. Definitely a movie to watch more than once! So glad it finally was able to be seen, along time in the making! But so worth the wait! Bravo to all involved! Kept us thinking! Everyone needs to be that catalyst! 10+++++++++

WHEN IS CATALYST 2 COMING OUT?

Catalyst is an absolute game-changer! This action-packed thriller was thought-provoking ride that kept me engaged and on edge - did not want to miss a minute. From start to finish, it was intense, meaningful, and introspective, making every moment count. (I had to rewind a couple time!)

The story IS DEEP and POWERFUL. Chris Falkens delivered performances was authentic and deeply human. Every character's journey was about their self-awareness, resilience, past, future, choices, moments, what matters and what are the costs.

The characters develpment, challenged me and engrossed me to reflect about my choices and beliefs. It's an experience for sure - IT'S A MUST WATCH!!!!

Tense head trip

I have been a fan of what David Bianchi has been a part of for years and this movie did not disappoint! It was like a secret hidden camera watching this group of men navigate the mind game to figure out a life-or-death puzzle, and the solution was their freedom.

The character development and intertwining of the lives of those involved expanded beyond the tiny room the bulk of the story takes place in. Watching each face his inner demons in his own way kept me watching and waiting for the next part of the story.

The production is on point. The plot is thick. This movie is definitely worth owning.

Catalyst is a gripping psychological thriller that delivers tension, mystery, and raw human emotion in every frame. Seven men, each harboring dark secrets, are forced into a deadly game by the enigmatic group known as The Collective. The stakes? Their very survival.

Michael's performance is nothing short of mesmerizing, bringing depth and intensity to a character caught between morality and survival. Christopher's direction masterfully builds suspense, weaving an intricate narrative that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats. Every scene is charged with purpose, making Catalyst a must-watch for fans of thought-provoking, high-stakes storytelling.

Exactly what we all need to watch right now

This movie will have you thinking about so many aspects of our current reality, there's lots of correlations to what we are currently experiencing... It really creates conversations we all need to be talking about. Just when you think you have it figured out, there's another twist and turn waiting around the corner. The actors were all great, the cinematography was fantastic, and I heard that they improvised over half of the film... wow! Definitely worth the watch, it's a much higher quality independent film than most others I have seen. Kudos to the filmmakers for really doing a lot with a little!

Not your typical movie!

This film stands apart from typical thrillers, offering a profound and thought-provoking exploration of transformation, choice, and redemption. It delves into the journey of men faced with pivotal decisions and some embracing change, while others resist. Rather than relying on conventional suspense, the narrative challenges viewers to engage deeply, rewarding those who pay close attention. This is not a mindless thriller but a cerebral experience designed for those who appreciate introspective storytelling and complex themes. It is a must see but put on your thinking caps and get ready to be challenged!

A Must-See Masterpiece: Catalyst is the Film We Need Right Now

Every once in a while, a film comes along that doesn't just entertain-it challenges, heals, and sparks the conversations we've been avoiding. Catalyst is that film. It's more than just a movie; it's an experience, a reckoning, and ultimately, a reminder of the power of forgiveness in a world that feels more divided than ever.

From the opening scene, Catalyst grips you with its raw, emotional storytelling. The performances are nothing short of breathtaking-each character feels real, flawed, and deeply human. The script doesn't shy away from the hard questions, diving headfirst into the pain of betrayal, the weight of resentment, and the profound struggle of finding common ground. But what makes Catalyst truly remarkable is that it doesn't settle for easy answers. Instead, it walks us through the messy, heartbreaking, yet ultimately transformative process of reconciliation.

In today's cultural climate, where every misstep can lead to permanent division, Catalyst dares to ask: Can we still find it in ourselves to forgive? Can we move beyond the mistakes of the past without erasing accountability? The way it weaves these themes into a compelling, beautifully shot narrative is nothing short of masterful.

What lingers most after the credits roll isn't just the story itself, but the way it makes you reflect on your own life-on the grudges you hold, the conversations you've avoided, and the possibility of healing in places you thought were permanently broken.

Catalyst isn't just timely; it's urgent. It's a mirror held up to society, reminding us that while division is easy, forgiveness takes courage. And perhaps, if we're willing to take that first step, it's not too late to mend what's been broken.

This film is a must-watch. Not just for cinephiles, but for anyone who believes in the power of storytelling to change the world.

This Film Elevates the Genre

Films of this genre don't usually have a message, just puzzles to be solved. Fortunately - finally - we have "Catalyst," which does BOTH. Christopher Folkens has shown us all how it's done.

The puzzles unfold brilliantly, with the story clicking each piece together just when we need them to connect. Every arc realized, every branch clipped, every loop closed.

And the message is not only evocative and powerful, it's timely. This film is exactly the kick in the ass the human race needs right now.

The score is powerful and expressive. The editing is nothing short of amazing. And the performances (watch the behind-the-scenes videos on social media to find out just how those performances came to be) are top-notch.

Christopher Folkens has created a must-see masterpiece. And as hard as he's worked, he's only left us wanting more.

Raw, Uncomfortable, and Deeply Human - A Thriller with a Soul

Catalyst isn't just a thriller-it's a mirror.

From the first frame, you're pulled into a space that's raw, intense, and undeniably human. What Chris Folkens has done here isn't just create a film-he's crafted an experience. One that unearths the shadows we carry, the pasts we suppress, and the emotional weight we pretend doesn't exist.

As someone who's personally walked a path of inner work, and even shared transformational spaces with Chris, I could feel the intentionality behind every scene. The tension isn't just cinematic-it's emotional, spiritual, and psychological. It forces you to question: "What am I still holding onto? And what would it take to let go?"

The performances are deeply human. The pacing keeps you guessing. And underneath the mystery is a message that lingers: healing isn't clean or convenient-it's gritty, uncomfortable, and necessary.

This isn't your typical thriller. It's a wake-up call.

Highly recommend for anyone ready to feel something real.

You are hooked from beginning to end, wanting to know what comes next, feeling a wide range of emotions that keeps you at the edge of your seat.

Chris Folkens delivers...his acting and directing talents produced a film not just for entertainment but also to make us self-reflect about the choices we make in real life. A must see movie, you won't be disappointed.

Will there be a part 2? I truly hope so! More movies like this one, need to be made!
