A lot of us african americans hate reliving that election...and this brought it back. BUT the whole story of these 2 meeting and getting together...kinda...well...FELT REAL. Not like storybook romance either - real. Their angst, the tension, the closeness. The movie was a bit dry, but again, there was feeling between the characters and that is what I liked most!
The only thing interesting about this movie is that it was filmed in a single shot. I don't understand what the concept is.
Don't waste your time, this low budget crap. I was really expecting something good and I've just wasted 1hr 30 mins of my time.
Even given the cast's pedigree, the film moves aimlessly slow. The interactions are genuine enough and the cinematography is the biggest positive of the movie. But too often it's uncomfortable silences when it shouldn't be. There's scenes that linger when they shouldn't. It feels like they were given a skeleton script and asked to fill in when needed, which they struggle to do at times.
Understandably, no one needs to know all the backstory, all the dialogue, all of everything to enjoy a movie. Hardwick's character seems so flawed and wide ranging (I guess LA type like Issa Rae says) and is almost the weight holding the movie down. All in all, it beautifully shot, reminiscent of Collateral in a way, but hard to pay attention to.

Black folks always seem to want a movie that's either a comedy or action. We seem to run away from or fear a movie that makes us think or touch our emotions. This was a film that I didn't expect much of, as I could tell by the producers and director that they are probably up and coming. But I think they did a good job and they were telling a story. A story of two people who had dreams that they had not realized. And it was set against the 2016 presidential election. And it showed people from various walks of life who were invested in that election and some of the footage from behind the scenes and just comments from the various actors, showed you how people were so upset about what happened in 2016. And to watch it now in 2025, where this man is back in office again, I can so relate to those feelings of disappointment when he won the first time. So yes, it's a slow movie because it's a character study. And again you're so used to watching Madea or the Marvel movies. But sit back and allow yourself to feel something, allow yourself to feel even where we are today. Touch your emotions and then I think you'll have an easier time getting in touch with those characters. They did a very good job. I enjoyed it. And I didn't think that I would. But I thought that it was two people who came together at the right time who needed each other to bring out the best in each other. And it didn't give a happily ever after ending, you have to surmise what you think their story was. But it was good.

The crew had to plan for months and choreograph the changing settings, chance encounters etc. As Qasim Basir put it during Sundance 2018, it was the hardest thing he has ever done. He cited the German movie "Victoria" with its single-take production as inspiration.
