Kei Tomiyama, who voiced Naoto Date in the first anime TV series, Taigâ masuku (1969), could not return for this one, as he had passed away in 1995. The only original voice actors from said first anime TV series to reprise their characters' voices in this one are Ryôichi Tanaka (Kentaro Takaoka) and Hidekatsu Shibata (Mr. X).
Wrestlers Shinsuke Nakamura, Karl Anderson, Doc Gallows and A.J. Styles missed out on their chances to be animated and supply their voices for this anime TV series when they left New Japan Pro-Wrestling for World Wrestling Entertainment in early 2016.
This anime TV series had 38 episodes and was broadcast for the first time by TV Asahi starting in October 1, 2016, the 47th anniversary of the premiere of the first anime TV series in 1969.
The story of this anime TV series takes place over 40 years after Naoto Date's escape from Japan.
