The entire intent of this show is to generate sympathy for these people's stories. But if you ask me, morons that go into war zones and try to spread peace and love deserve exactly what they got. That's what makes the show a struggle to watch all the way through each episode. Fairly slow pacing with a constant "look what I went through" that completely clashes with the obvious idiocy of their choices.

This is a really good documentary series. It is not boring at all, as other reviewers suggest. Each episode is different from the other, they are mostly all very interesting, engaging, full of suspense and unexpected twists. I really liked it.

Extremely well done series. A lot of the bad reviews seem as if they didn't really give this series a chance or fully watch even a few episodes. All perspectives were provided and balanced. Believe that there was care taken with each episode to give a fresh and unique experience independent and unique to the episode. I especially liked that some ended well and that some ended differently. It provided a good range of what is real life and not something that appears only in very easy to watch television. It captures the full stratagem on human emotions and struggle that surely were experienced by these folks who were unfortunate enough to be held captive.

The episodes told by the protagonists are interesting and the reconstructions mixed with archive footage are very well done
