This drama is a cute, innocent love story between Louie, a naïve chaebol who loses his memory after an accident, and Go Bok-sil, a warm-hearted country girl who tries to find her brother. Both meet in Seoul, not knowing how to navigate through city life. Bok-sil takes care of Louie after she founds him on the streets with her brother's clothes on and not having any memory about who he is. Although he seems to exploit her, as she goes to work, and he doesn't do anything else than spending her money because habits survive amnesia, it's clear from the beginning that both characters have very warm, loving personalities. Whenever he can, Louie gives a thousand times back, and the way they care for each other is just cute and heart-warming.
I really enjoyed this light-hearted romance with non-toxic main characters. They act so loving around each other that you totally believe being with each other just gives them happiness. They don't try to hide their feelings or play games or whatever characters do in dramaland to drag the story. In the second half, I felt Go Bok-sil acted a bit out of character for a while, overall, the writers kind of loose focus on her and concentrated more on Louie. Her character and story could have been integrated better into the main plot in the last few episodes, and, besides being cute together, the two main leads need some deeper conversations to show their relationship has more to it. Still, I enjoyed them together, and apart from the always present jealousy in K-Dramas, their relationship felt honest and genuine. From all the K-Dramas I've seen so far, it's the first one were the main characters don't get drunk.
I didn't care much for most of the side characters. Even the second leads aren't that deeply developed. Yoon Sang-hyun does a great job in portraying Cha Joong-won as the second male lead and boss of Go Bok-sil, but, apart from his rude behavior, he felt annoying over time. I'm sorry but I can't root for a man around his forties falling for a twenty-year-old girl who doesn't have any feelings for him, and I think it would have been so much better and meaningful portraying him as a fatherly figure rather than a second love interest. His interfering with Bok-sil's and Louie's relationship is cringe and overstepping, but at least it creates some funny scenes.
Overall, "Shopping King Louie" is a light watch with two very warm and giving main leads, lots of cute moments and a few sadder ones as well. Still, the plot never feels dark, so it's perfect for a rainy weekend when you need something to lift you up.

Because of his grandmother's superstitious belief that those closest to her come to harm, Louie has been raised far away from Korea in a beautiful palace in France with servants who cater to his every whim and a bank balance large enough for him to buy any thing that strikes his fancy. His lifestyle suffers a significant reverse when a trip to Korea finds him penniless and with no memory of who he is. He is rescued by a young woman who harvests ginseng for a living and has come to Seoul to find her brother. Their attempt to live and support one another is hampered by her naivete' and Louie's reflexive need to shop.
I started watching this series and enjoyed it a great deal, much of which is because Louie is such a fun and funny character. He's essentially a 25 year old puppy dog who pouts when his demands aren't met, rueful when he causes trouble, easily winded when he runs too fast but so goofily warm-hearted that you can't blame Go Bok Sil for taking him in, feeding him and quickly forgiving him when he overspends their limited funds.
But the second male lead is equally hilarious. Cha-Joong Wan is Go Bok Sil's grumpy boss who falls in love with the oblivious Go Bok Sil. He yells, scolds and complains while doing some of the nicest things for her and even for his rival, Louie. I have to say that every time he grunted in frustration (which was frequent) I had to laugh. But honestly, nearly EVERYONE is funny is this series: Louie's grandmother's right-hand woman who is conversant with the virtues of carrying a baseball bat; Go Bok Sil's volatile neighbor lady and her layabout son; Cha-Joong Wan's interfering parents (particularly his mother). The main villain's beautiful daughter, who you'd think you'd hate because of her attempts to undermine Go Bok Sil, ends up being comically inept. Equally memorable is her kindly spacy mother who keeps unconsciously upending her villainous husband's machinations.
I kept waiting for the series to lose itself in overwrought dramatics and humorless plot twists. Yeah, it gets a little lost narratively speaking towards the end and some of the events that occur are obviously filler to get the series to the requisite 16 episodes. But as a whole, the series is cute, funny and heartwarming.

I wasn't too sure about this show at first as it started slowly, kept on being slow and a little frustrating at times, but it turned out into a very heartwarming story that's worth watching until the end. It was helped a LOT by the *extremely* hot policeman (why is that never true in real life?) and some funny moments, but was let down by too many disgusting eating scenes (seriously, wipe your mouth and don't talk with your face bulging with food). Also i don't get why the boss guy was so rude ALL THE TIME. It's a good lesson on NOT overprotecting and overspoiling a child, but in the end the story was perfect and it all came together well. Give it a shot and don't give up :)
It is a light k drama with good actors and an okay story.
The leads have done very good acting and also their chemistry was good enough, Story is okay but i think the show became slow specially during last 4-5 episodes. Romance could have been a bit better and also the story could be made a bit more interesting.
I overall liked the show but one thing i found strange that side characters stories were left hanging, i think writers were a bit confused on how to finish side characters stories so i think the ending could have been better.
Overall i think the show is good, the lead characters are adorable. If you are looking for a light k drama with a bit of romance and comedy then go for it.

I feel frustrated these days, so i need a funny and simple drama to watch.. i need that kind of warmth and also not a cringe one, i found that in shopping king louis.
I thought i wouldn't complete the show after the half of the first episode, but the acting of the main lead the actor was great and very smooth and fun.
The second lead actor, i liked him since the drama " the secret garden", he did also a great job here. The actress also, the friend, the family, the coworkers.. everyone is acting very well.
The osts are amazing, the clothes, the story lines.
BUT.. the last 4 episodes were so dragging, i liked them though, but it was obvious they needed 16 episodes by all the means.
Thank you for the happy times i spend with this drama, thank you korea.
(Note) the actress hair colour kept changing in different scenes.
EDIT i have just seen the last episode now.. i cried a lot, this is how i react with happy endings. Thank you all for your great efforts.
