Last year, an adaptation of the Stephen King novel The Long Walk (which was, like The Running Man and Thinner, published under the pen name Richard Bachman) went into production, with director Francis Lawrence, whose previous credits include Constantine, I Am Legend, Water for Elephants, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Parts 1 and 2, Red Sparrow, Slumberland, and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, at the helm. Now, the first trailer for the film has been shown to the audience at the CinemaCon event, and JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray was there to see it!

Just how real is “The Studio”? Real enough that IndieWire is today premiering some “first look” stills at the latest we-wish-this-was-real film featured on the hit new AppleTV+ series. Just imagine: it’s “Collateral” meets “Taxi Driver,” all in “Alphabet City,” the “latest film” from “A Beautiful Mind” director Ron Howard and “Continental Studios.”
Set in the ‘70s, the very real film from the very real movie studio sees a New York City cabbie (Anthony Mackie) thrust into a world of crime and bloodshed when a wounded gangster (Dave Franco) jumps into his car in the middle of the night. An unlikely friendship is forged as the two fugitives attempt to outrun a violent kingpin — and their pasts.
Below, IndieWire has some exclusive first look at images from the “film,” which marks Mackie, Franco, and Howard’s first collaboration, thanks to “Continental Studios,” and Howard’s return to the film...

A new trailer for the upcoming Netflix Western romance series, Ransom County, has now left the stables, with the footage teasing a tale of generational struggle over family land that is sure to have fans thinking of Taylor Sheridan’s monumental hit series, Yellowstone. And they would be right to do so, as Netflix’s head of drama, Jinny Howe, has described Ransom County as nothing less than “Virgin River meets Yellowstone.” Which should amply tease the steamy Western series ahead. You can check out the newly released trailer and details of Ransom County below.
Based on the Jodi Thomas series of books, Ransom County was created, written, and executive produced by April Blair (Wednesday). The series finds Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly in the lead as Staten Kirkland and Quinn O'Grady, respectively, with the rest of the ensemble cast comprised of Marianly Tejada (One of Us is Lying), Jack Schumacher...

Today, Netflix released the official trailer and key art for the new modern Western drama, Ransom Canyon. Starring Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly, the new series will debut on April 17.
Welcome to Ransom Canyon, where love, loss, and loyalty collide beneath the crimson mesas of Texas Hill Country. With three ranching family dynasties locked in a contest for control of the land, their lives and legacies are threatened by outside forces intent on destroying their way of life.
At the center of it all is stoic rancher Staten Kirkland (Josh Duhamel), who is healing from a heartbreaking loss and on a quest for vengeance. Staten’s only glimmer of hope rests in the eyes and heart of Quinn O’Grady (Minka Kelly), longtime family friend and owner of the local dancehall.
But as the battle to save Ransom wages on, a mysterious cowboy drifts into town, dredging up secrets from the past.

Are you ready to get your yee-haw on this spring on Netflix? The streaming service debuts its new Western romantic drama series Ransom Canyon on April 17. It's the perfect cross between Heartland, Virgin River, and Yellowstone (there's even a sprinkling of Friday Night Lights in there), and it's sure to be one of the biggest new Netflix shows of the year. We finally have a full trailer, the official poster, and new first-look images featuring more of the ensemble cast!
Netflix previously shared a short teaser and a few photos in February ahead of the April release date, but on March 27, the streamer shared the full look at Ransom Canyon. Updated, March 27, 2025: A new trailer, set to “Texas Sun” by Khruangbin and Leon Bridges, has arrived for Netflix’s latest Wester TV series Ransom Canyon, based on the book by Jodi Thomas.
“In Ransom Canyon,” Josh Duhamel’s voice says over shots of ranchers riding horses, the main thoroughfare of the small Texas town, high school football games and more. “Everyone’s running from something, or running to something.”
Duhamel stars as Staten Kirkland, one of the main ranchers in the titular town, who is part of a large ensemble of the new Netflix show, out April 17.
“What’s up with that guy anyway?” Jack Schumacher’s Yancy Grey, who can be seen later on in the trailer risking it all for a rodeo ride, asks Cap Fuller (James Brolin) about the stoic Staten.
“He lost everything,” Brolin replies over a montage of a car wreck and police sirens.

Once upon a time, in the not-so-distant year 2005, a group of space cops in colorful spandex took our TV screens by storm. Yes, we’re talking about Power Rangers S.P.D., the season that gave us futuristic crime-fighting, alien bad guys, and some of the best morphing sequences in the franchise.
The show was packed with action and had some of the most well-developed characters in the Power Rangers universe, giving fans a mix of humor, drama, and intense teamwork. It was a season that stood out for its strong storytelling, memorable villains, and, of course, a legendary mentor who was literally a walking, talking space dog.

Fast forward to today, and our beloved heroes have swapped their Ranger suits for new careers, different roles, and the occasional Comic-Con appearance. But what exactly are the S.P.D. squad members up to these days?...

General Hospital spoilers and updates tease fans wonder if there might be a “reel” romance between a real life couple! A recent returning character’s actress is married to a newer character’s actor.
Reel And Real Romance?
Fans were recently thrilled by the return of a beloved character to Port Charles-interestingly, the actor portraying this character and one of their co-stars share a real-life connection.
Not only have they collaborated on various projects, but they are also happily married; this has sparked speculation among fans about the possibility of a romantic subplot blossoming within the soap.
Ada Turner (Nazneen Contractor) made her debut in a gripping storyline where Ava Jerome (Maura West) faced accusations of pushing Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Kate Mansi) out of a window at the Metro Court.
Now, Turner is back, entangled in a plot involving the murder of Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober), with Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) emerging as a prime suspect.

When a Hollywood actor is big and making lots of movies, it kind of feels like they'll stick around forever. There are plenty who do, but so often a familiar face will enjoy a hot streak before vanishing from the limelight. Back in the '90s we had a number of such actors. Alicia Silverstone, Meg Ryan, and Bridget Fonda all hit their peak during the decade and became household names thanks to their hits. And then they were gone, either suffering from a string of poor choices (Silverstone), taking a break from acting (Ryan), or retiring altogether (Fonda). Another Hollywood star who enjoyed her heyday in the '90s before vacating our multiplexes was Rene Russo. But why exactly did she disappear from Hollywood?
Russo was one of several models who crossed over into acting during the '90s. Some made a big splash in their breakthrough roles, like...

Soap alum Josh Duhamel has a slew of projects coming up, but one of the most high-profile ones is a Netflix western called Ransom Canyon.
Texas Cowboy
Ransom Canyon will call on Josh Duhamel to ride a horse and basically live his best cowboy life. While the actor hails from North Dakota, his new drama is set in Texas. According to Tudum, Netflix’s online arm, the upcoming series “is a romance-fueled family drama and contemporary Western saga that charts the intersecting lives of three ranching families, all set against the rugged expanse of Texas Hill Country.”
This modern Western is based on a popular book series by New York Times bestselling author Jodi Thomas. Duhamel plays Staten Kirkland, “owner and sole occupant of the sprawling Double K Ranch. Staten leads the charge to resist the outside forces threatening his way of life and the land that he loves.”

The success of Gladiator II last year came as no surprise, as fans had been waiting for more than two decades for a sequel to Ridley Scott's original epic, which, according to Mel Gibson, could have looked a lot different. Starring Russell Crowe, the historical action saga was released in 2000 to rave reviews, and would go on to earn more than $460 million at the box office. However, had Gibson not already been committed to another film, it would have been him in the role of Maximus Decimus Meridius, and not Crowe.
Appearing at MegaCon Orlando this past weekend (via ScreenRant), Gibson was on a panel to discuss his career in film, and it was then that the Lethal Weapon star revealed that Scott had approached him about starring in Gladiator. He'd had a string of hits in the '90s including Braveheart, Conspiracy Theory, Payback, and Ransom, and seemed...

Mel Gibson is the Oscar-winning actor and director who has had his fair share of highs and lows, due in large part to several self-inflicted scandals. Let’s look back at 12 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1956, Gibson and his family moved from New York to Australia, where he first came to prominence as an actor thanks to George Miller‘s original “Mad Max” trilogy, plus leading roles in Peter Weir‘s “Gallipoli” and “The Year of Living Dangerously.” He had equal success in the US, starring in everything from action films (the “Lethal Weapon” franchise) to romantic comedies (“What Women Want”).
He first hit the Oscar jackpot with the 1995 historical epic “Braveheart,” in which he also starred as Scottish warrior William Wallace. That film brought his wins in Best Picture and Best Director. He had similar directorial success with the controversial box-office bonanza “The Passion of the Christ...

Warning: Spoilers For Star Trek: Lower Decks' Season 5 Finale - "The New Next Generation"
Star Trek: Lower Decks just promoted its First Officer to Captain, something Star Trek: The Next Generation never did for Commander William Riker (Jonathan Frakes). As Star Trek: Lower Decks' fifth and final season comes to a close on Paramount+, the USS Cerritos gets the chance to save the entire universe. Captain Carol Freeman (Dawnn Lewis) and her crew admirably rise to the occasion, stabilizing a wormhole to alternate Star Trek timelines. The wormhole becomes a permanently open gateway to the multiverse with Starbase 80 stationed at the rift's entrance.
With Starbase 80 now serving as the base of operations for the exploration of other quantum realities, Starfleet puts Captain Freeman in charge of supervising these missions. She and her husband, Admiral Alonzo Freeman (Phil Lamarr), move onto the station, and Starfleet promotes Commander Jack Ransom (Jerry O'Connell...

Mel Gibson’s career has been a rollercoaster ride of successes and failures punctuated by some unpopular opinions and controversial moments. However, back in 1996 Gibson was still banging out some of his best work. This includes the action thriller Ransom, which has scored a huge resurgence on Tubi since arriving on the free streaming platform recently.
The film stars Gibson as Tom Mullen, a wealthy airline owner whose life is upended when his son, Sean, is kidnapped. Director Ron Howard delivers a blistering fast-paced race against time, which comes with several twist endings and strong performances from Gibson, Rene Russo, and Gary Sinise. Almost thirty years on, the film’s arrival on Tubi has underscored the constant demand for action movies, both old and new, on streaming platforms, and how very few pass by without a stop on a Top 10 chart somewhere.

There’s scene in 1984’s Bachelor Party perfectly sums up just how stupid – and hilarious – the movie is. It involves a donkey overdosing on cocaine. Not because anyone gave the donkey cocaine, mind you. No, it’s the donkey’s choice, as he strolls over to a table full of drugs, chops up some lines with his hoof, and goes to town. He then dies of a massive heart attack. A cautionary tale, to be sure. If you haven’t seen Bachelor Party and that joke strikes you as in particularly bad taste, you probably don’t need to track this movie down because it doesn’t get any classier.
However, for a generation of us, Bachelor Party was a late night sleepover classic. It was like The Hangover of the 1980s, albeit not as big of a hit. It’s the raciest movie Tom Hanks ever made, with him...

Yesterday, I wrote a story about how one of my favourite Thanksgiving movies, Dutch, seems to be nearly impossible to find nowadays, with the out-of-print DVD and Blu-ray pretty pricey and the movie not streaming at all on any service (although some readers noted it used to be on HBO Max). I’ve written at length about movies that are hard to find, but just how popular some of the missing titles are shocks me. It’s gotten to the point where niche titles, or at least ones with some kind of cult behind them, are often easier to find than formerly popular ones. Consider the fact that just today, Michael Mann’s The Keep, which never even got a DVD release, has just been announced for 4K Blu-ray. I was pondering this very thing when I received a text from a friend of the site, Paul Shirey, who used...

A new Knives Out clip introduces us to Chris Evans' Ransom Drysdale character. Ransom is a much different character than we're used to seeing Evans play. Ransom is being described as the spoiled playboy son of Jamie Lee Curtis and Don Johnson's characters in the Rian Johnson-directed movie. And right away, it is easy to see that Evans is playing a smug character with a sense of entitlement as he ignores and then insults the detectives trying to question him.
The all-star ensemble cast of Knives Out includes Daniel Craig, along with Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Michael Shannon, Lakeith Stanfield, Don Johnson, Toni Collette, Christopher Plummer, Katherine Langford, Riki Lindhome, Edi Patterson, Raúl Castillo, and Jamie Lee Curtis. Rian Johnson was able to assemble a huge cast for his murder mystery and he has been praised by early reviews for his efforts. Even from the latest short clip and trailers,...

Lizzo‘s “Truth Hurts” is the number-one song in the country for the fifth week in a row on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. That’s the longest reign ever for any female rapper without another artist credited. But how long will she maintain her grip on the top spot? She’s got some competition from newcomers Lewis Capaldi and Lil Tecca. Watch Billboard’s video above to see all of this week’s top 10 singles.
Before “Truth Hurts,” the longest number-one run for a female rapper by herself was Cardi B with her breakthrough hit “Bodak Yellow,” which spent three weeks in the lead position in 2017. In another couple of weeks Lizzo could tie the record for all female rappers: Iggy Azalea set that benchmark when she spent seven weeks at the summit in 2014 with “Fancy” featuring Charli Xcx.

Post Malone’s “Circles” ruled the Rs 100 for yet another week. Thanks to more than 19 million streams and 14,000 downloads, Malone’s hit stayed in front of “Ransom,” the ubiquitous, sing-song rap single from 17-year-old Lil Tecca.
Malone has dominated the Rs 100 since the release of his album Hollywood’s Bleeding. He appeared on 17 different charting songs this week. But Malone’s tight grip on the upper reaches of the chart loosened slightly this week. And then there were none. CBS has opted not to pick up drama series Instinct starring Alan Cumming for a third season.
The network in May postponed a renewal decision on four midseason drama series, which were either still airing or yet to premiere — sophomore Instinct, freshmen The Code and The Red Line, and third-year Canadian import Ransom. The Red Line, The Code and Ransom have since been canceled. They are now being joined by Instinct.
Instinct creator/executive producer Michael Rauch announced the cancellation on Twitter, revealing that the series will be double pumped this Sunday and will air its Season 2 series finale next Sunday, Aug. 25.

CBS has gone dark on DirecTV, DirecTV Now and AT&T U-verse in many major markets after the two sides could not come to a new distribution agreement. The deadline was Saturday morning at 2 a.m. Et.
Additionally, Smithsonian Channel and CBS Sports Network are currently unavailable on DirecTV nationwide. CBS Sports Network has also been dropped from DirecTV Now nationally.
“After months of negotiations, CBS is simply looking to receive fair value for its popular programming and is proposing economic terms similar to those that AT&T’s competitors have accepted in hundreds of our recent distribution agreements,” CBS said in a statement on Saturday. “The DirecTV deal expiring tonight was signed in 2012 and is nowhere close to today’s fair market terms for CBS content – to which AT&T’s competitors have repeatedly agreed.”

Suspense drama series Ransom, which has aired on CBS in the U.S., Global in Canada and TF1 in France, will not be getting a fourth season. The series’ team announced the end of the show to fans Wednesday.

The Red Line has reached the final stop at CBS.
The Eye network has swung the ax on the freshman drama after one low-rated season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"[The show] did not get picked up for a second season, so it will exist as an elegant novel," co-showrunner Sunil Nayar revealed to the website at the Atx Television Festival.

The 2018-19 television season is in the books, and as usual, some shows performed better than others. Like, better than all of these. This time around, there was actually a tie for broadcast’s lowest-rated entertainment series among adults 18-49, which is the demographic most-beloved by advertisers: CBS Saturday drama “Ransom” (which is still awaiting a renewal/cancellation decision) and ABC’s “Alec Baldwin Show”. See how the 21 lowest-rated broadcast TV shows rank by their “most current” Nielsen ratings below. For the purposes of this story, we elected not to count shows on The CW and news magazines like “20/20,” “48 Hours” and “Dateline,” which would have gobbled up several slots. Highest-rated is first, lowest-rated last — and yes, there are ties.
