The Acerbo Cup (or Coppa Acerbo) was an annual automobile race that started and ended in Pescara on the Adriatic coast. It was noted for the variety of roads on its circuit (straight, mountainous, bendy) and for the fact that spectators could watch it from any point on its 25 miles. It ran from 1924 and 1961 and was effectively killed off by its bad safety record and the increasing success of the Formula 1 championship which was established in 1950.
