Don't Let the Devil In

In my opinion, this movie was one of the most poorly made and written I had ever seen. It moved through the plot so slowly and and the dialog was very choppy. It seemed as if the entire cast was hired from the town it was filmed in. Most every character couldn't act and wasn't able to speak without awkward pauses. The filming was jerky in spots, which may have been intentional, but it didn't make any significant impact and made the film seem cheap (which it seemed to anyway). The audio was terrible. In spots it sounded if it was recorded in a toilet. It had a hollow sound and at times had sound that didn't seem to go with the scene. Scenes would jump and make no sense whatsoever. Some may say this was gave the film an artistic feel, but to me it just made it a poorly made B film (can a worse rating be given?)

Well this is a weird little film. The acting is stilted throughout, the conversations sounding unusual and forced. The whole screenplay is broken into pieces, with little vignettes of moody landscapes, and a constant soundtrack of doomy noises. Whether all this is designed to be unsettling, I'm not sure, but the overall impact is that it's impossible to get any kind of emotional involvement with the main characters at all. And with the constant weird noises from the get-go, far from building tension, it just normalises it. On the whole, even though I watched the whole thing hoping it would all of a sudden make sense, I was left with the impression it wasn't a story worth telling.

Very enjoyable film. I happened to catch the trailer online and had a chance to watch it at one of their viewings. There is a much deeper backstory to the film with regards to over-development and small town values. Loved the ambient music choice which was certainly haunting in some of the scenes.
