Good for Kids, Forgettable for the Rest

There's something deeply satisfying about sitting down for a film and realising - thank god - it's not a reboot, not a sequel, not a reimagining of an 80s toy you forgot existed. 'Elio' is a brand-new Pixar original, and I liked that. The concept? Brilliant on paper. An 11-year-old boy accidentally becomes Earth's ambassador to an intergalactic council. It sets the stage for something wild, emotional, and full of imagination.

And it's cute. It really is. The alien designs are charming, the colours pop, and the relationship between Elio and his mum is genuinely lovely. There are moments that tug at the heart, and Glordon (his gooey alien pal) is an absolute standout.

But 'Elio' plays it painfully safe. It never fully commits to the weirdness or depth that the premise begs for. It follows a very familiar Pixar formula and never strays far from it. You can see every emotional beat and plot point coming a mile away.

This kind of story - kid feels like an outsider, gets whisked into a cosmic adventure, discovers they're more than they thought - has been done too many times, and better. Think 'E. T.', 'The Iron Giant', 'Lilo & Stitch'. 'Elio' doesn't quite hit those emotional highs or carve out a voice of its own.

That said, if you've got kids, take them - they'll have a great time. It's sweet, wholesome, and easy to watch. But if you're expecting something truly new or memorable, this one's probably fine to skip until it hits streaming.

Final Verdict: 🌟 Lovely to look at, but plays it too safe.

👶 Great for little ones.

📺 Best saved for Disney+.

ANOTHER HEARTWARMING GEM.

Elio is another heartwarming gem from Pixar. The animation is beautiful, with rich colors and amazing space designs. The story blends emotion, humor, and action in a way that only Pixar can. You really feel for Elio as he navigates a strange new world, and the ending is both powerful and satisfying. The film balances fun alien adventures with quiet, touching moments that stay with you. It's a classic Pixar mix of wonder and warmth - not just great for kids, but meaningful for adults too.

Synopsis: For centuries, people have called out to the universe looking for answers--in Disney and Pixar's all-new feature film "Elio," the universe calls back! The cosmic misadventure introduces Elio, a space fanatic with an active imagination and a huge alien obsession. So, when he's beamed up to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from galaxies far and wide, Elio's all in for the epic undertaking. Mistakenly identified as Earth's leader, Elio must form new bonds with eccentric alien lifeforms, navigate a crisis of intergalactic proportions, and somehow discover who and where he is truly meant to be.

Great movie but lacked a lot

I watched Elio, and honestly, it felt highly rushed. The movie spent more time building up Elio's plot and his life on Earth than it did on the actual space adventure - which should've been the heart of the story for growth. Even then, the space part lacked complexity, everything just felt short and underdeveloped. I know it's a kids' movie, but it still felt like it could've been much more. Kids are capable understanding some complex situations. Take WallE and monsters, Inc for example. Overall, it came off as rushed and missing the emotional or narrative weight it needed. I see the vision but it needed more.

Solid Pixar Film

A very entertaining film that's not just for kids - adults will find a lot to appreciate, too. The main character is incredibly sweet and deals with relatable, everyday issues in a heartfelt way.

Visually, it's beautifully animated as you'd expect from Pixar. It definitely resembles ,Luca' regarding its looks.

More importantly, the story touches on timely and meaningful themes: loneliness, grief, and how people from different backgrounds can come together when it really matters. It's thought-provoking without being heavy. Definitely worth watching, even if it's not among Pixar's absolute top-tier films.

Originality should be celebrated not punished.

The first few minutes of the film felt slightly incohesive, but it quickly found its rhythm. What followed was a genuinely good film, refined, emotionally grounded, and supported by well-developed characters.

It was disheartening to see such a low turnout on premiere day, especially for a film that dares to break away from the recycled storylines we've seen over the past decade. In a time when originality should be celebrated, it's unfortunate that support for something this fresh feels lacking.

That said, the film delivers plenty of heartfelt and humorous moments, and it's one that will surely resonate with both children and parents alike. I truly hope word of mouth helps it gain the recognition it deserves.

i loved it!!!

Eight out of ten!!!. I really enjoyed this film & i didn't expect two aliens to have me teary eyed leaving the theater!! Yall should take y'all kids to see!! I seen a lot of grown adults complaining about this film when it's not for them, it's for children. I'm sure the kids will enjoy regardless of what you ppl are talking about. My nieces and nephews enjoyed every second of ELio !! I honestly don't have any complaints whatsoever, the storyline was great, it teaches kids about true friendship with anyone or anything no matter what, it shows how you can overcome bullying and even make friends w those who once bullied you. It's all around a lot of positive messages being sent in this film.

Very Average

Elio (voiced by Yonas Kibreab) was a young boy who'd lost both parents and was left to live with his aunt, Olga Solis (Zoe Saldana), a major in the Air Force (or some other branch). As a result of losing his parents, and probably other emotional deficiencies, Elios preferred to be kidnapped by aliens rather than continue to live on Earth.

He got his wish one evening when aliens from the "Communiverse" beamed him up. They were a collection of the finest minds of all the galaxies and they were looking to induct another member.

"Elio" was not a movie on my watchlist, but my son wanted to see it and there are very few movies in theater I can take him to. "Elio" was average to me. It was very formulaic and dealt with the same emotions most animations deal with: pain, loss, joy, acceptance, love. I don't begrudge the movie's message or adventure, it just wasn't very unique.

This long jaded Disney fan approves

After so many years of flailing storytelling, and a recurrent paint by numbers approach to film making I was really pleased to see this movie turn out to be so engaging and enjoyable. Yes the pacing is a bit off but on the whole it brings ample amounts of drama, laughs, and characters you grow to like and really root for. I also enjoyed the positive family messages that avoided being preachy like so many Disney films have in recent years. While not a hall of fame Pixar classic, this builds on the positive momentum from Inside Out 2 and on the whole it was a fun ride for both the kids and dad.we'll plan to watch it again when it's on Disney+ as it's good enough for a second viewing.

Classic Pixar magic with a dash of The Wizard of Oz and E.T.

Elio is a wonderful Sci-Fi Fantasy about an ungrateful boy who's granted a wish when he's whisked away on an incredible journey, at the end of which he learns that there's no place like home. Pixar's Elio has heart.

It's everything that i love about Pixar original films. It treats it's characters like real human beings and takes them on a full journey both inside and out (no pun intended). It's a movie for kids and adults and doesn't insult anyone's intelligence or sensibilities. Its a fest for the eyes, the brain, and the Soul.

Some Comps for it would be: E. T. The Wizard of Oz Luca

Don't expect Elio to be like Lilo & Stitch. Elio's alien friend is not written as a pet. He's his own character complete with a story arc. Trust me, it's well done.

"Being unique sometimes feels like being alone."

Elio lost his parents.. now he feels alone and miserable, and can't seem to fit anywhere. A chance alien abduction (by mistake) gives him the chance to claim a place as Earth's leader and Ambassador.

From the poster, I expected something different.. space adventures, without any Earth tie-ins. But here you have a bullied and vulnerable kid finding family love. It is quite a straightforward 80-min film whose length isn't felt (more like a short), with beautiful visuals and creative designs and well-written characters.

And while the movie itself isn't particularly remarkable.. it's made by how the emotional beats hit just right, getting its message across perfectly. Seemingly great for kids!

Watched with a non-English dub, and would still recommend it.

A refreshingly funny movie

Although it is not a masterpiece, it is one of the few original films that has come out in recent years. It's entertaining and funny, the visual art is very beautiful, the animation is very good, and the story itself is fun and for the whole family. I don't need to tell a story we already know to be a really good movie. 🍿🎥 To be honest, I waited two years to see this movie because I expected a lot from it from the beginning and it was incredible. The characters were not flat, and it showed us both the problems of the protagonist and the aunt, their relationship was very nice. For more movies like this!!

A Little Underwhelming

Pixar's next original film is now here! And honestly, is a little underwhelming. For starters, it's a Pixar film with a theme! With other films like Lightyear or Luca. There's a theme in there, but it's not present like other films! This is one with that heart and theme that Pixar is known for! When it comes to the story or theme, it all feels like Lilo and Stitch. Alien story, kid who feels he doesn't belong. It all feels like Lilo and Stitch! The film makes sure you care for the main character. He's a fun character, and is the best part of this movie! There's a lot of fun to be had! Characters, story, it's fun! But fun is not Pixar. Pixar is known for there advanced storytelling, mature theme, mature storytelling. That's what makes Pixar, PIXAR. But with Elio, it still feels like a lot of recent Pixar films, Like Elemental. Where you like it, it's enjoyable. But is not the highs of Pixar. Saying something is solid, means it's one of Pixar's weakest films, such as Elio! There problem is, there's too many different story ideas there trying to tackle, that in the end. It's rushed, chopped together, but has heart. Again, not the Pixar that Pixar was, back in the day. I was expecting more, but for a Pixar film, it doesn't reach the highs it needs to reach!

Pixar's Attempt at Making a Pixar Movie

Elio ends up feeling like Pixar at its most generic with so many recycled beats and supposed emotional moments taken from any one of their other movies without any of the impact. The film just feels like it's trying to get those tears out of you from the very first scenes and it actually started to annoy me very quickly and annoying really is the main word I associate with this viewing experience. It feels so emotionally manipulative and as a result most of the beats fall completely flat. The script just seems to be allergic to subtlety and there wasn't a single resolution I didn't see coming from a mile away after the first 20 minutes. It got the odd chuckle out of me but for the most part I found the characters to be complete non-entities and outside of the main aunt-nephew relationship I don't think the film took enough time to build up it's dynamics. Even the visuals, which are admittedly impressive, still feel close to images we've seen in better Pixar movies but without any of real spectacle. This movie bored me and it annoyed me but for the most part I felt nothing whilst watching it and those my least favourite kind of movie watching experiences. It's abundantly clear at this point how good Pixar can be so that makes it even more frustrating when they make as much of a nothing movie as Elio as turned out to be.

A Fabulous Original Movie That Every Disney Fan Has Been Asking For

Elio. A movie about a young boy dreaming of being abducted by aliens, and is accidentally transported to an interplanetary organization called the Communiverse. Now if that synopsis is not original, I don't know what is, because THAT is one heck of an interesting concept for a movie, let alone a kids movie. What's also interesting is that there's no other movie that has a story similar to this one. Of course we've seen people being abducted in movies a lot, mostly B-movies, but a movie about someone who WANTS to be abducted? That's on a whole other level! I have high hopes for Disney in the future. If they keep doing what they're doing with their upcoming Pixar originals like Hoppers and Gatto, these movies will succeed. AND, if Disney takes notes from the live action How To Train Your Dragon movie Universal just put out, then their live action remakes will also succeed. I know Disney will improve in the future. I'm well aware they've lost around a billion dollars because of what they have been putting out, but their downfall will eventually come to an end and start pointing upwards. Overall, Elio's a fantastic movie, filled with light-heartedness and funny humor that will get everyone laughing. And honestly, I would love to see a sequel!

Beautiful but kind of scary for kids

It was a really beautiful world creation but not your typical Pixar movie. My daughter loves and has been exposed to a lot of different movies rated for kids. She's 5 and loves going to the movies. She left crying and so upset and said she didn't want to buy or watch this one again in our house. I will say, while the end brought the light to the darkness - she wasn't wrong. There weren't a lot of loud action shorts, shooting alien missiles, and the bad guys were quite intense and pretty aggressive for your typical Disney / Pixar. This was definitely for an older age kid crowd. That's a bummer considering we love Pixar and it's usually a favorite in the house.

Colorful and sweet

I took my 7 and 11 year-old grandkids to the movie. They both liked it and thought it was fun. I heard a few belly laughs when the boy tried to get aliens to abduct him. The graphics were bright and vibrant and easy to watch. For an adult the movie was just so so - the storyline was a bit weak and not original - same old story about someone feeling like they don't fit in and that they are bullied. Some of the alien conflicts and conversations seemed rushed and not fully developed. I hope this era of "poor me" movies is coming to an end and we get to see some inventive Pixar creations like Toy Story or Monsters Inc again soon.

A Stellar Effort

"Elio" is a return to form for Pixar, a dazzling and emotionally resonant cosmic adventure that feels both fresh and classic. The film, from directors explore the profound themes of loneliness, identity, and the desire for connection with a gentle and heartfelt touch. Elio, a young boy mistakenly identified as Earth's ambassador to a galactic council, navigates an imaginative and visually stunning universe of eccentric alien lifeforms.

The story, while occasionally relying on familiar sci-fi tropes, is elevated by its sincere emotional core and clever humor. The animation is breathtakingly beautiful, showcasing a vibrant and creative world that only Pixar can deliver. The character designs, especially the aliens, are a triumph of imaginative artistry. The film's strength lies not just in its spectacle, but in its quiet moments of emotional truth that will resonate deeply with audiences of all ages.

Is it worth watching? Yes, absolutely. It's a charming and poignant film that reminds us of the power of empathy and belonging.

Blasting Into Emotion And Beyond

LIKES: Beautiful Visuals Smooth Animation Fun Content Relatable Character Moving Dialogue Relevant Material Entertaining Pace Funny Voice Acting Works For Me

DISLIKES: Still No Stakes Adventure Is Limited Lots Of Content Feels Rushed Character Usage Is Meh Unfulfilled Potential

Summary: In terms of the likes, Disney continues to amaze me, especially when Pixar comes up with vibrant worlds to play inside of. Elio maximized the visual experience with incredible colors that pop in a dazzling light show of splendorous wonder and fun. The worlds within the Communiverse have that nice touch of specificity to cater to the alien hodge-podge that dwells within the confines of the massive mini-universe. Certain to be a staple for merchandise, such visuals are fun to have adventures in, especially as the enthusiastic youth uncovers more of what they have to offer. Smooth animation unleashes fun content, the styles that were being studied in the 90s-2000s now reaching a peak in execution, with little frame dips or changes in styles. Amidst the fun are relatable characters, the titular one at times resonating well with me, given how awkward and odd I can be. However, there are plenty of statues to attach to in this movie, a character that my friend would say is a "spirit animal" of sorts that Disney's stories continue to highlight as their main element. These characters help to move the relevant material, deep dives into the facets of human relationships and identity that are wholesome, meaningful, and well-delivered, without getting too preachy. Moving dialogue at times hit me the hardest, these perfectly-executed moments that have the visuals to sell the full emotional spectrum of pain, joy, and happiness. And it's all done by talented voice acting, the two young voice actors are astonishing with how well-versed they are in their craft, perhaps the best performances of the bunch. Saldana is a welcome addition as well, not quite as balanced as the other two, but still putting her skills to their best work and accomplishing much as the supporting character. What was best for me was how the movie had emotion, but held a lot more humor that leaned towards classic Pixar. Elio incorporates jokes for a variety of ages, giving everyone something to enjoy as they poke fun at a lot of modern trends. Again, it feels like classic Pixar, and I always enjoy seeing those quips pulled in so that I don't feel like I'm watching Nick Junior titles again. To have it balanced with the meaningful material the way they did, the movie is entertaining, finding the correct pace to give you a lot of the movie-theater worthy experiences.

In regard to the dislikes, the movie still hasn't fully gotten back to the spirit of adventure that my favorite Pixar films have. Elio has a lot of focus on touchy-feelings and internal exploration rather than the outside world. Despite the establishment of a promising antagonist, Elio still can't give me an exciting adventure with stakes, suspense, and close calls that The Incredibles, Bug's Life, and Finding Nemo did. The comedy and relevant material helped alleviate some things, but in terms of Pixar's excitement, the studio still has some work to get back to the balance it had with its earlier works. Some other limitations had to do with the movie being too short, a lot of content feeling lost to the cutting room floor, as there seem to be gaps and conveniences taken that seem a little too stretched for my taste. Character usage is also mediocre, with a few big characters holding the promise of something more, but they get little screen time or involvement. How they still have not gotten this balance down just right, I don't know, but I found Elio still needed some polishing. As for the potential of the movie, there is more to be tapped, perhaps in a sequel that Disney will greenlight if it's profitable.

The VERDICT Elio blasts off into a visual style that Pixar continues to excel in with their animation work. It's a touching film that checks a lot of relevant boxes for me to help me enjoy the film. The comedy, especially, was my favorite aspect, getting back to the styles of their earlier works and blending them with the character development to make an engaging film that entertained me on various levels. And the voice acting, especially for Elio and Glordon, was top-notch and accomplished, selling a lot of the emotional moments that had many in the audience crying. Yet, Elio is still a bit too geared to the new-age storytelling, focusing more on the touchy-feely adventure than crafting the unique stories that match the internal to the external. It needs excitement, stakes, threats, and more time so that we have these character investments maximized, and not this plot armor that modern Disney crafts. Even more, I felt a lot of material got left behind with editing, much of which could have given us more time with the cavalcade of alien characters Pixar has created. There is more connection present, but most of the target audience might not care when you dive headfirst into the Disney pool. Is it worth a trip to the theater? I think so. Regardless, I give Elio the scores of: Adventure/Animation/Sci-Fi/Comedy/Drama/Fantasy/Family: 8.0 Movie Overall: 7.5.

Elio is good, the writing is not

Again Pixar delights our eyes with an amaizing world , beautiful 3d animations in a well produced movie that deliver de escencials.

Elio as a character is very likeable, his personality is childish yet simple and has a very cute design that does represent all he is about.

Then what is the problem with this movie? , in short , the script. The writing is overwhelmingly poor , the "villian" has a very weak motivation, they barely show what he is capable off, and the worst part is that the solution to this problem is just to travel with someone... and that's the movie... the solution lacked so much imagination that you could tell the writers didn't know how to fill the lack of problems and they deliverately invented a few ways to portrait some conflict on the trip.

They literally had the whole universe in their hands to create a better story, but while the presentation of this universe shined brigthly the main conflict that should have ignited our desire to watch more ends up turning it off instantly

At the end the message of the movie is clear, and doesn't fail to warm your heart once the problem is solved. Unforunatelly the lackluster writing turned what should have been another pixar gem into a completely forgettable movie.

My new favorite modern Pixar movie!

Honestly, just watched the movie ELIO, And I had to get on here and complement it. This movie boasts Beautiful animation - it continuously shows stunning depictions of space and a whimsical intergalactic atmosphere . It has a refreshing and. Great storyline. Throughout the entire movie. Nothing felt forced. It was much more realistic in nature. Showing ballots of actual humanity instead of a Pinterest version of the world and how children actually interact. . The characters were original. Tons of personality and witty comedy Sprinkled throughout the film.

Smart, funny and with so much heart. My new favorite modern Pixar movie!

Every original Pixar film is a breath of fresh air!

I don't understand people who don't like this movie. I think it's a really good family movie! Especially considering that it's not a sequel or a remake, it's even more valuable! You can't ignore original projects!

Just give this movie a chance! They put a lot of work and time into it, it almost went into production hell! Yes, I know it could have been much better, but the final product looks cool and cute!

Respect to everyone who worked on this movie. The animation is simply gorgeous as always and the characters are very memorable. I really want this amazing movie to pay off and make a lot of money at the box office!

A Very Sweet and Fluffy Adventure

Eleven-year-old Elio Solis is living with his busy aunt after the passing of his mother and father. They do not understand each other at all and with Elio struggling to get along with others in school, he wants to be abducted by aliens and befriend them. The boy gets his wish because the aliens of Communiverse take him who mistake the kid for Earth's leader. The Communiverse faces a crisis with a dangerous alien threatening to invade their home for rejecting him. Elio must prove his "status" as Earth's leader by convincing Grigon to leave the Communiverse alone.

Elio is a very sweet movie. This is a whimsical sci-fi family film filled with cosmic fun and heartfelt moments. I feel this movie takes inspiration from several classic sci-fi films, but uses its own flare to create a very imaginative world of aliens. The Communiverse is awesome and it truly feels the ultimate intergalactic paradise that kids would go crazy over. It is also fun to watch how the protagonist has to balance pretending to be the Earth's leader and getting to be himself when he has the chance. Normally, I do not care for this kind of plot, but this movie does it in a way that makes Elio more willing to take a risk to find his place in a world he believes he belongs, making the movie more compelling to watch. The story is not too special as there are some familiar story beats involved, but it is very fun to follow and never boring.

Ultimately, Elio is about a kid who feels like no one understands him or even tries to and wants to join up with aliens to find someone he could connect with. Among all of the fancy alien creatures and technology, this is a movie about overcoming loneliness and reaching out to others. Also, the movie has a theme about parenting with the relationship between Elio and his Aunt Olga. They have a lot of differences and they clash a lot, but they are still family and it is important to understand and love each other. I can tell that the messages in the story are personal for Directors Domes Shi and Madeline Sharadian and they do a great job building the heart of the movie with the themes. This movie is great for both kids and adults because there are messages for everyone watching.

Elio is very whimsy with how it handles the alien world and it is overall a very lighthearted and fluffy film. There are a couple moments of dark humor involving Other Elio, but it is overall focused on the awe and wonder of the world Elio discovers and the heartwarming friendship he makes with Glordon. The humor is very clever and funny here. While I was not laughing super hard, I found a lot of scenes very funny and most scenes put a big smile on my face. Even with gags that did not land for me, I never got the feeling this movie was talking down to kids when trying to be funny. The humor is very natural and sincere with a few moments of really funny dark humor. The scene where Other Elio fills in the real Elio's role cracked me up not gonna lie.

The characters are overall solid, but not perfect. Elio himself starts out as a pretty unlikable brat. There is a scene early on where he is pretty mean to his aunt who is trying her best as someone who just became his parental guardian. I thought I was gonna dislike him, but he ended up mellowing out throughout the film as we see why he acts the way he does, his willingness to take on very scary tasks even if he's nervous and how he can be a really good friend when he makes one. By the end, I found myself liking and respecting Elio a lot and I feel like he has a fully fleshed out arc with several hidden depths. It helps that Yonas Kibreab is fantastic as the voice of Elio and Other Elio showing a lot of range and emotion throughout the film.

A lot of what I said about Elio can be applied to his Aunt Olga. Olga starts out as not a bad person, but aloof and more focused on work than her nephew. However, she is under a lot of stress with her job and her new status as Elio's guardian so I find her a lot more sympathetic right off the bat. What I really like about her is that she makes a bigger effort to understand Elio and even plays a big role in the climax. I really did not expect that she would be someone more than just a generic parental figure that just exists for a child character, but she is very active in the story. Zoe Saldaña is great in the role too as I think this is the perfect kind of character for someone like Saldaña to voice.

My favorite character by far is Glordon, the son of the main villain. He looks like this creepy and kind cute slug-like creature who could scare anyone away, but he is so kindhearted and open. He immediately befriends Elio and is more than willing to help him despite just meeting him. His presence alone makes the movie more enjoyable and Elio himself more likable because Glordon brings the best out of the kid. Their friendship is adorable and by far the best part of the film. The way they look after each other, enjoy each other's company and open up to their insecurities makes for one of the most likable friendships in a family film I have seen in a while. Remy Edgerly provides a lovable vocal performance for this adorable alien with infectious energy and emotion.

The rest of the cast is not as strong. I do like the villain Lord Grigon and how he is a different take on a galactic conqueror. I also enjoyed Brad Garrett's hammy performance and his more poignant scenes that show a different side to this conqueror. I also think Bryce is a nice kid who ended up with the wrong group of people. I also like OOOOO the liquid super computer and her ability to transform into so many things. She kind of feels like a Pixar version of Ditto. I also enjoyed Shirley Henderson's performance because this woman understands the silly role she is playing.

My biggest problem with this movie is the wasted potential of the other aliens. They have cool designs, powers and voices, but they do not get a whole lot of characterization or spotlight. They kind of just exist to show off how unique each alien species is in the world of the Communiverse. Questa is the best one because she has a couple of great moments, a cool voice from Jameela Jamil and a cool power, but even she could have been utilized more. It is disappointing that the ambassadors end up coming off as underused because I am sure aliens could be a draw for viewers of the movie.

The only thing I will say is that their lack of interactions with Elio outside of business related duties show that Elio's true friends is someone he thought would be an enemy and that his aunt loves him for who he is. I'm not excusing the movie for this mistake though I really wish the other aliens were more fleshed out. The main characters and the villain are great and three-dimensional, but the supporting cast is lacking a bit. The voice cast all across the board is excellent though providing this movie with a lot of energy and heart.

Unsurprisingly, this is a gorgeous looking film. The colors in this movie pop and the alien designs look imaginative and original. They are not the typical aliens we think of for sure. Each alien looks unique from one another. The human designs are a bit more simplistic, but they work for this movie. They give good contrast to the wacky world of the Communiverse. Also, their expressions are very fun to watch, especially Elio's who almost comes off as a 2D character turned into a CGI character.

The backgrounds look incredible like the cosmic paradise that any kid would dream of going to if interested in space. Even the bathrooms look cool! Also, the art direction is great too. There is a scene with Other Elio that almost operates like a parody of a zombie film that looks creepy and awesome at the same time. There are a lot of memorable shots in this movie that utilize the grand world around Elio and just Space in general. This movie does a great job making space look cool.

The musical score by Rob Simonsen is lovely and fits the whimsical tone to the film perfectly. I also really like some of the songs played in the movie, especially the one that is played at the montage at the beginning of the film. This movie has a great soundtrack.

Although far from perfect, I really enjoyed Pixar's Elio. It is an adorable movie that goes by at a brisk pace. It has some very strong themes underneath the wacky alien world and it progressively gets better with each act. I just wish some of the side characters were a little more fleshed out, but I cannot deny the joy I had watching it. It's not doing very well at the box office and that is a shame. If you are looking for a fun and beautiful animated film to catch on the big screen or even just looking for a comfort film, this is a great movie to catch in theaters. You do not have to be a kid to enjoy Elio.

Stay through all the credits, especially for the second scene...

Good concept and message, but a bit forgettable

I do appreciate that it isn't a remake nor sequel to an existing IP by Disney and Pixar. It's nice to see a new story and original idea without having to constantly be slammed with remakes and sequels.

To begin with, the concept of Elio is pretty good as a story about venturing through the new world, UFO's, alien adventures and mishaps sound is pretty cool. Throughout, once again, the animation is rich of colors, vibrate lights, and the designs are cute and well-structured. Pixar never fails to impress with their high quality animation style and designs. Especially with the alien designs, I really loved their movements and structures. Alongside with the sound designs, the colorful vibe atmosphere, and there is a good sense of humor as it does balance out with some of the emotional levels together.

However, despite the good concept, the writing unfortunately doesn't fully take advantage with the creative concept as it thinks. There are certain moments in the story that felt cliches with modern children animation tropes, and emotional and complex moments that seemed interesting, but the execution comes off as it plays a bit too safe. I understand that it's for children, but in the past, Pixar has been able to put good complex themes within their works and it makes it a great emotional experience. Because of this, it didn't felt as impactful nor connectable as I would have liked.

The character of Elio is okay as his development offers a good insight with the setting and atmosphere. But the other characters weren't really as interesting, as they felt undeveloped and uninteresting to observe. The voice performances, surprisingly, was pretty mild as despite some strong voice performances, some felt a bit awkward and out of place.

I'll be honest, it's a bit disappointing because I love to support more original new stories from Disney because they need to continue to bring out new worlds and stories. Unfortunately, Pixar and Disney has been falling into the "play safe" path, and it effects what made Disney in the past amazing. Overall, Elio is a okay popcorn Disney movie for the children but it's quite forgettable.
