Fingerpori

This is a surprisingly bad movie. Fingerpori is a beloved comic strip, and I don't find the idea of the live action potrayals inherently offensive. But somehow the movie manages to do everything wrong.

The good old gags we've all seen in the comics are in the first minutes, and got a few chuckles out of me. That accounts for the second star. I'm also feeling charitable for no particular reason.

But then the "story" starts, and the movie falls apart. The characters are meant for silly puns and one-liners, and they're not fleshed out at all nor is "the lore" expanded. The skits are very long, and bore you to tears. The ultimate punchline goes from mediocre to painfully unfunny. The tone is also weird: puns don't really work that well if the storyline casually involves some very dark material such as death, child neglect, and excessive alcoholism without any payout - comical or otherwise. The movie skips the usual humor and even obvious places for some of the classic comic-strip lines.

This movie might just be the definition of painfully unfunny. The script is baffling, and it's mind-boggling that dozens of industry professionals saw it and were like "this is fine, lets shoot it".

Yes, this movie is a collection of puns with some extended stories that are not wovren into each other. So what? Did you expect an artistic miracle? I most certainly did not. In my opinion this move can hold its ground among such Finnish comedy 'classics' as "Onks Viljoo näkynyt?".

Typical for this kind of comedies is that the main strory is almost inexistant. The comedy is composed of stereotypic characters interacting with each other and repeating their one-liners we expect to hear. They have no depth (neither are they supposed to), but they succeed provoke a couple of laughs.

Watch this while drunk, or just to enjoy nostalgic 1980's interiors.

The whole movie is just the most popular fingerpori-pun-jokes in live action. The movie is made in a way that gives nothing to the story. Characters interact like they were characters of a comic. Plot is nonexistent and acting bad. The format of the movie is 4 stories from residents of Fingerpori, but the twist is that the stories have already been seen in the comics. Nothing is achieved by making a movie copy-paste from the comic strips: Everybody has already laughed at those jokes.

Only reason this movie exist is the fact that Finnish culture makes it possible to a movie make a few bucks just based on the fact the concept is familiar and likeable. Somebody might see an ad of this movie and think that "I might watch this. Maybe it has a few great new jokes now that it is a whole brand new movie". I hope that no one has actually watched this with high expectations and got disappointed by the unoriginality.

I would not recommend this movie to anybody who has ever seen a fingerpori comic. If you have never seen anything fingerpori related (you live in an other country) u won't cry yourself to sleep, mostly because the jokes work only in finnish. Please do not waste your time watching this movie, you will make a favor to yourself.
