The Trigger

Given the lack of Hollywood funding, The Trigger does an incredible job of dealing with difficult issues and times. I was drawn in from the beginning and felt it allowed me to draw my own conclusions of the storyline. Contrary to other reviews, I thought the ending was brilliant in that it left you (me) with a lot of questions. That is what I appreciate in a good movie - allowing me to think and question, and then, to learn more. Rather than read the reviews, WATCH the movie and appreciate it for what it's worth - a tough story that is so true to life.

Let me start by saying I love the darker films where the lead character appears flawed or broken in some way. Given my taste I was excited to see this film because that's what it sounded like. It starts with trouble, tough choices and trying for redemption slowly but steadily turns into more of street gang slasher storyline. I'm not sure the ending really fit the storyline, I understood it but one of those endings where you want to scream at the main character "why the h*** would you do that?"

Disclosure: the writer and director of this film, Christopher Bradley, was one of my film professors. I took 4 of his classes. I am also acquainted with the cinematographer, Aiden Chapparone. So, there is some inherent bias in my review.

This is a well-made film (especially given that it was made locally in the Phoenix metro area) with an interesting storyline. The film shows some of the incredible difficulties ex-cons face when they are released from prison and the lengths one may go to feel normal again. I had little knowledge of the subject material, so this film was very informative. I didn't have many expectations going into this film, but I left having been interested and entertained throughout the entire runtime. There were several outstanding shots that I found impressive. The acting was also good. Overall, a very good movie. Give it a try!
