Terrific

Yellowstone was one of the best shows on tv from when it originally came on in 2018 right up to the ending in 2024. It was the #1 show on cable for all 5 seasons it was on (really it was 6 seasons because they broke season 5 into 2 parts). It's hard to explain just how good this show really is. The acting, writing, directing, cinematography, production, etc, are all incredible. It's exactly what you expect from a Taylor Sheridan show since just about everything he does is terrific. The acting was as good as anything on tv. Kevin Costner, Luke Grimes, Cole Hauser, Kelly Reilly, Hassie Harrison, Kelsey Asbille, Wes Bentley and the rest of the cast all deserve recognition for the incredible job they do season after season, episode after episode. It's one of the rare shows where almost every season is just as good as the others. I can't recommend this show enough, just go watch it for yourself.

Going to miss it

Yellowstone has easily become one of my favorite shows since it originally came on. Every season has been fantastic. It sucks Kevin Costner couldn't finish the series and had to miss the last 6 episodes because of conflicting schedules. I still think they do as good as job as possible without him, I'm sure the ending would've been better with him but it was still worth watching. They now plan on doing a spin-off with Rip and Beth. I'm definitely looking forward to that. I hope the rest of the Dutton family makes some appearances. This series had plenty of action and drama to keep everyone satisfied. The cast is just about perfect as can be as they all give incredible performances. The cinematography is also as good as it gets on tv and shows just how beautiful Montana is. I was completely hooked on this show and was one of the few shows I still watched live because I loved it that much.

Ten starts are not enough for the show

I'm happy to say that this show and by all means is the best show I've ever seen in my entire life. I've seen lots of shows as I'm addicted to them, but this one touched something in my heart and soul. If you watched 1883 and 1923 the series, Yellowstone would make sense to you and you will fall in love with the story and it's drama. I love stories that has long history like Yellowstone and how it started. The show had a great beginning and greater closure and this is very rare to see nowadays. I need to recommend this show for people and I would love to see something that has the same greatness one day.

Cowboys Love-letter par excellence!!!..

We have always liked Herr Costner's Western output,(...I think 'Open Range' with the peerless Robert Duval is one of the Greatest ever...),and this series is one of his best, although, I suppose his Family, with all their various issues, probably have more screen time...no bad thing as they are all, uniformly brilliant with the 'Cherry on Top of the Cake', Kelly Reilly as his mercurial, combative daughter'Beth' chewing up the scenery every time she's centre stage. Everyone else are superb too, though. We have just finished Season 4 and loved it especially all the proper Cowboy 'stuff' with incredible scenes of competition Horse riding, Rodeo riding and the like...Wonderful stuff. Cannot wait to see how the superb series ends. Bravo to All involved...Yee Hah!!!........ .......Was a bit rushed doing this review, last night, so I didn't even get to mention other great characters like the excellent Native American contingent, uniformly dignified and charismatic and the 2nd 'Cherry on the Cake'.... Cole Hausers 'Rip' who my wife tagged straight away...she loves hunky, rugged men hence...er...me,(..Hee hee..).

Great Binge-Worthy Show!

The wife and I have watched since season 1. We stopped when all the bickering started in season 4, and then binged the final season after it was over. I was worried that Sheridan was going to blow the ending, but I felt it was well done. We get closure, we know where everyone is headed, and many of the fears we had for some characters are laid to rest. Very well done. Finally, someone knows how to end a series.

I didn't blame Costner for wanting to end on a high note. This was SO much better than dragging it out. Season 4 was proof that it was time.

Be aware that there's lots of sex, alcohol and language abuse, but it is tolerable. I'd definitely suggest this show!

Tremendous television

Let me say one thing: if you had come to me a decade ago and said that Kevin Costner's flagging career would be revived thanks to his role in a modern day western, I would probably have laughed and called you crazy.

Yet it happened. Costner's John Dutton will surely go down in the annals of TV history as one of the best characters ever.

Costner played Dutton perfectly: a doting father, a ruthless ranch owner and a man who is no stranger to violence. Unforgettable.

With "Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan has done something quite difficult: he made us care immensely about a bunch of characters of dubious moral standing.

For example, Kelly Reilly's Beth Dutton was, for the most part, a horrible person, yet you cared about what happened for her, cheered on her successes and commiserated her failures, even when said successes might have been on the wrong side of what's right.

That's because Reilly is a brilliant actress, and because she was given top-notch material to work with.

Cole Hauser, Luke Grimes, Kelsey Asbille, Wes Bentley...all brilliant.

Sheridan is a genius.

What a show. We won't see it's like again, that's for sure.

Cole Hauser as Rip is AMAZING

I have seen most of Coles tv work but I have to say when I watched the first Episode of "Yellowstone" and the next few I was so entriged with Rips character and he seemed familiar I had to look up who this handsome dark haired cowboy was and imagined my shock when it said Cole Hauser !!! I was telling myself NO WAY !! Brilliant I tell you JUST brilliant !!!

Yellowstone

My opinion of this franchise is based on the fact that I viewed 5 seasons in two weeks. I couldn't get enough, but this waiting for the new content has left me not wanting to continue watching.

The character development and storyline in my opinion is ranked in the top 10. Cole Hauser's character. Works very well in the series. I saw him in another movie and it just did not carry the same realism as it does in Yellowstone.

Kelly Riley's character is riveting, but I don't know if it would be as entertaining in a spinoff or other series.

Taylor Sheridan has come out with so many great new series. I re-watched 1883 and it was completely gut wrenching but loved every minute of it.

Season 5, Part 2

Star rating with all the characters minus Taylor Sheridan is a 9.5 Star rating with Taylor Sheridan episodes is 3 Yellowstone seasons 1 thru 5.1 were fantastic. The character development by Kevin Costner, Kelly Riley, Cole Hauser, Luke Grimes, Gil Birmingham, and Wes Bentley were spectacular. Even other characters played by Jefferson White and Forrie Smith were brilliant. What has ruined a few episodes is Taylor Sheridan trying his hand at acting. It's awful and I have second hand embarrassment for him. He of course puts himself in the position of rich, famous, cocky hero and it gives me the ick. So fake and forced. He should stick to writing and directing and leave the acting to the professionals. That he puts himself in direct interaction with them like he is of the same caliber is comical. He seems to be attempting the same thing in Lioness and it doesn't make me want to watch it anymore.

In my top five all time greats

Draws you in immediately, with really well defined characters, beautiful cinematography and a sweeping storyline that's part politics, part family dynamics and part a pure love of the land. Can't think of any series that does this better. I felt a real infinity with Ruth, despite the foul mouth and the impulsive raw emotion of her character. Her past emerges over the seasons and every revelation draws you more into her confidence until you feel like her friend, cheering her on from the sidelines and willing her to get what she really needs to be happy. Jamie is weak, cruel and treacherous, and deserves everything that happens to him and Kayce is the old soul and the only sibling who truly understands what the land needs. John Dutton, brilliantly played by Kevin Costner, is the lynchpin that holds it all together. Loved all of them and will miss them now it's all over. Brilliant!

Good Show!

The show started off fantastic. A patriarch (Kevin Costner) and his four kids live on a sprawling ranch in Montana, fighting to protect their land and way of life. Of course, there's plenty of personal drama as well. The first season was pure gold-gripping, intense, and well-written.

However, like many shows, it declined over time. I was especially disappointed by the lack of character growth. Some characters became so over-the-top that it was almost comical. Beth was always angry, Monica was always crying, and Kayce was the golden boy, while Jamie made all the wrong choices and was universally hated.

That said, it was still a great show, with stunning cinematography and plenty of gripping moments. I truly enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone.

Warning for netflix viewers: no season 5

If you are like me and watch things on Netflix, here's something I wish Netflix had told me before I started watching: it does not have the 5th season, and it is very unlikely it will acquire the rights in the future. You'll get drawn in with season 1-4, and then find yourself thinking: wait, this is it? Where's the rest?? Nothing is resolved, nothing is wrapped up.

Well, you'll have to go somewhere else for the rest. Where that is depends on where you live.

As for the series itself, there is very little to say that hasn't already been said. Yes, seasons after 1 & 2 are not as good, but it's not such big change as to lose my interest. Certainly good enough foe me to wish I could see season 5.

Kevin Costner Does It Again

I don't believe anyone does western films better than Kevin Costner and with Taylor Sheridan writing it is a win win for viewers. Take a look at "Wind River" for an example of what Taylor Sheridan can do. Where has Cole Hauser been hiding? He is amazing. I guess the daughter is a necessary part, but she is over the top at being a bitch. The scenery is fantastic and being from Colorado I can really appreciate the vast beautiful land. Do yourself a favor and get hooked on this series as it is going to be a winner.

It was a guilty pleasure until S04

This show has run dry on ideas and I'm done investing time. None of the characters, save Jimmy, grow or change. It's gone from a modern western to soap opera. To add insult to injury the story now is completely unbelievable, I really think that the duttons are the bad guys in their own show.

Highly manipulative

'Lolita' is a 1955 novel written by Russian-American novelist Vladimir Nabokov. Nabokov set out to write a beautiful piece of literature but on a subject that was immoral and deplorable. The reader is thrown into a state of cognitive dissonance. It's great novel but....but.....

'Yellowstone' has a similar effect. Viewers are presented with a stunning aesthetic and seduced by the cowboy myth. But the family at the centre of the story are ultimately corrupt, vile murderers. Yet we are expected to sympathise and cheer them on. It's not unlike another popular series, 'Succession', but on horseback. However, while the family in 'Succession' are more clearly ugly, the Duttons and their entourage are held up as a shining example of America as 'the land of the free and the home of the brave'. It's a terrifically manipulative series.

Country Version of Sopranos

This is the type of show where cowboy/western life meets big city mafia life. This show is well cast, the first two episodes have been well written and leaves you wanting more after every episode. Not to mention the Montana and Utah scenery is beautiful.

The Dutton's remind me of the Ewing's from the 70's drama "Dallas". In short Yellowstone is "Dallas" meets "Sopranos".

I To Not Like This Show, Unfortunately It's Very Good

(Review is only for the first two seasons)

I came into this show not expecting to like it but the storyline, acting, and cinematography is superb. Basically it's Mafia Wars in Montana with intermittent giant doses of testosterone (cowboys with guns on horses while fishing)! Costner is a master actor as lead of the Duttons. The show is at its finest when it shows the chessboard moves the Duttons and their enemies engage in.

The show gets gummed early in the second season but starts rolling again midway through. Kelsey Asbille is the weakest link as Monica and plays a poor hand badly, the storyline jettisons awkwardly out and the acting just misses the mark.

I think Cole Hauser as Rip may be the strongest acting (sans Costner himself) and looked forward to all the scenes Rip was in. Thomas Rainwater is great too. The storyline hums and the scenery is beautiful.

Just as Cormac McCarthy's "All The Pretty Horses" was a little more raw and brutal than the title suggests, this show strikes in a similar vein. Highly recommend and wish I didn't wait so long to watch it.

Finally a modern day western worth watching!

I've been waiting on this show to premiere and I was more than pleased with the performance with the great set of actors and actresses that seem to bring their A game along. Beautiful cinematography and we'll bred horses what else could a gal ask for?

Filmed local to me and really enjoy the show.

I live in Darby, MT where most of this is filmed - just yesterday they filmed right across the street from me in a field with a few horse and cattle. I believe the show is pretty solid story, and in the niche where Costner does his best. One thing I did notice about the first season, given my half Native American side, is it leaves you wondering who the good guys and bad guys are - perhaps both sides are both good and bad.

I will admit it is neat to see them filming while here, the ranch is just down the road from me and I pass nearly daily on the way to fish in the Bitterroot River

This is definitely like watching a moving artistic masterpiece!!

It is so gorgeous and beautiful to look at and I guess being from Texas, I find it comforting. Obviously Kevin has gotten better with age! Hot Daddy! They scored big time to get Kelly Reilly in this! I still tear up when I think of her character in ""Flight"! She is one powerful actress who really puts her heart out there! I am in love with this show! I don't want to spoil anything so I'll just leave it at this. It is enjoyable to let play in the background or focus on intently. It doesn't try to own you, it just offers you everything to take in as you please.

A solid drama with influences that are all over the palce...

Yellowstone is a solidly written drama - great characters, well-crafted - that draws it's tone from a few different modern-day masterpieces.

It has the feel and cinematography of Longmire, the plotting and grim outlook of The Sopranos, and the dramatic dynamics of shows like 'Dynasty' or any of the other network dramas similar to that.

Much respect must go to Costner and Cole Hauser - these guys bring it 100%.

I did not expect to get drawn in to this show like I did. It's well worth your time.
