The main antagonist in both Homefront games is North Korea. However, everything in the games suggests that the enemy was originally suppose to be China.

Both Homefront games are conceptually based on the movie Red Dawn written and directed by John Milius about the fictional USSR invasion of America in the 1980s and the American homegrown resistance that followed. Millius even wrote the story for the first game, and the Resistance fighters are sometimes called Wolverines in the second game, which is the name for the Resistance fighters in the movie.
