You You
As in Dudu - which is the German name of the movies main "character" ... the car that is. So no pun intended - after Herbie was successful worldwide, Germany thought "hey we can do this also" ... well they could ... sort of. The first of the series is really quite weak and I am really understating here ... you could also say it didn't age that well.
Apart from stereotypes ... which I reckon you can forgive or not (depending on your own views), the movie has so many flaws ... and uses stock footage every other minute. It is not just technically bad ... every aspect is as cheap as they come. Which is no wonder since this really did not have any respectable budget at all.
The main actor remains throughout the other movies - the car(s) will change ... they even change here! The main car gets swapped - and I reckon most didn't car or paid attention back in the day. It is the same with stunt men back then - nowadays you can tell and see (also wires) differences ... but you were taken aback I reckon ... so much so, that you didn't look for things.
Quite the wonder this spawned another 4 movies ... and two of them were also made between the first and second Herbie movie - maybe the US took a page out of the success of the German movie.
Language is supposed to be German, but it does sound and feel dubbed in a way ... maybe spoken over the actors ... doesn't help that some of the roles are being portrayed by very well known dubbing actors of Germany .... you just have heard the voice so many times before.
Anyway, I may be nitpicking here, but this was not good - I would be lying if I said otherwise. I don't even think too many kids would be entertained ... well maybe the very little ones ...
