He is a maternal great-grandson of Native Hawaiian Entertainment legend E.K. Fernandez, known as the P.T. Barnum of the Pacific, and of his Illinois-born wife Rose Nearing who, along with her sister Margaret Nearing, was part of the Nearing Sisters Vaudeville and High Wire Act.
