Nineteen years after My Chemical Romance’s most acclaimed album, The Black Parade, was released, the New Jersey emo-rock band brought a cinematic and theatrical performance of the album to Los Angeles.

Playing two sold-out shows at Dodger Stadium, Saturday night’s kickoff show was the band’s (known by fans as MCR or My Chem) first L.A. show since 2019. Long Live The Black Parade, MCR’s first stadium tour, was a theatrical affair.

The band — currently consisting of members Gerard Way, Mikey Way, Ray Toro and Frank Iero — played their 2006 hit emo-rock concept album, The Black Parade, in full, set against a backdrop best exampled in the tour’s teaser. Hayley Williams dances it out in a car in the “Watch Me While I Bloom” lyric video, a track off her solo debut Petals for Armor.

Accompanied by photographer Lindsey Byrnes, Williams lip-syncs the track from the front seat while the duo dances to each pulsating line. “I’m alive in spite of me/And I’m on the move,” she sings. “So come and look inside of me/Watch me while I bloom.”

Hayley Williams has released a solo acoustic quarantine cover of Phoebe Bridgers’ “Smoke Signals,” made in tribute to Williams’ friend/collaborator Lindsey Byrnes, whose father recently passed away.

Hayley Williams, known best as the lead singer of Paramore, has announced her debut solo LP, Petals for Armor, due out May 8th. On Wednesday, she released her lead single from the album, called “Simmer.”
