Are you afraid? Aislinn Clarke’s claustrophobic horror “Fréwaka” just sold to Japan (Hakuhodo Dy Music & Pictures Inc.) and Spain (Filmin).

“It’s great to see the response to ‘Fréwaka’ and the appreciation for smart horrors on the market. It seems that the exploration of the themes of Irish mythology and placing them in the contemporary setting makes it exciting and relevant for distributors across the world,” said Jan Naszewski of Poland’s sales outfit New Europe Film Sales, which is already in “advanced talks” with North America and U.K.

In the film – written and directed by Clarke, also behind “The Devil’s Doorway” – home care worker Shoo (Clare Monnelly) heads to a remote village to care for agoraphobic Peig (Bríd Ní Neachtain). Dark Touch is the story of an eleven year old girl called Niamh (Missy Keating) whose parents and baby brother are killed when household objects seemingly begin to attack them of their own accord. Suspecting a gang of homicidal vandals, the police ignore Niamh’s declarations of supernatural events occurring at the family home and goes to live with family friends but the mysterious occurrences start to happen again and the nightmarish horrors of Niamh’s past return to claim more victims.

Featuring a French crew and an Irish cast and one wonders if something drastic was lost in translation…

Prepare yourself for suspense with IFC Midnight's latest film, Dark Touch. French filmmaker Marina de Van 's (In My Skin) latest eerie and intense thriller dives straight into the darkness that can possess a child's heart. In a remote town in Ireland, eleven-year-old Neve finds herself the sole survivor of a bloody massacre that killed her parents and younger brother. Dark Touch comes to theaters September 27th, 2013 and stars Art Parkinson, Padraic Delaney, Mark Huberman, Anabel Sweeney, Marcella Plunkett, Olga Wehrly, Ella Hayes, Robert Donnelly. The film is directed by Marina de Van.

Shooting has just completed on, 'Blood Coloured Moon', the first Filmbase/Rte short film to be shot on the much talked about Red format. Written by established playwright, Barry McKinley, the romantic comedy features Ronan Leahy (The Catalpa Rescue), Olga Wehrly (Speed Dating, The Clinic) and Frankie McCafferty (Middletown, Ballykissangel). Director Marc-Ivan O'Gorman, who's previous credits include the Fuji Film award-winning short 'Trick or Treat' and the feature 'Black Magic', is delighted with what he has to work with: 'This is as good a short script as you'll come across, we've managed to get a wonderful, experienced cast, and from what I've seen of the Red it is a stunning format'.
