Fox has greenlit more seasons of three of its adult animated series: “Universal Basic Guys,” “Grimsburg,” and “Krapopolis.”

“Grimsburg” and “Universal Basic Guys” are both returning for Season 3, while “Krapopolis” has been renewed for Season 5.

“Krapopolis,” which has received a Season 5 order ahead of Season 3, “is set in mythical ancient Greece and tells the story of a dysfunctional family of humans, gods and monsters trying to run one of the world’s first cities, while also trying their best to not kill each other in the process. The series centers on Deliria (Hannah Waddingham), goddess of self-destruction and questionable choices. As petty as she is powerful, Deliria is only interested in defending civilization if it means she’ll get more worshipers out of it than her frenemies up on Mt. Olympus,” according to the official description.

Exclusive: Fox is continuing with its animation fix. The network has renewed three of its animated series — Grimsburg, Krapoplis and Universal Basic Guys.

This follows its bumper deal to renew long-running hits The Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers, as well as returning series American Dad, for four more seasons.

Grimsburg, which stars Jon Hamm, is returning for Season 3, Krapopolis returns for Season 5 and Universal Basic Guys is back for Season 3.

Grimsburg, which premiered in January 2024, centers on Marvin Flute (Hamm), who may be the greatest detective ever to catch a cannibal clown and correctly identify a mid-century modern armoire. But there’s one mystery he still can’t crack — himself. To do that he must return to Grimsburg, a town where everyone has a secret or three, and redeem himself in the eyes of his fellow detectives, his ferocious ex-wife and his lovably unstable son.

Universal Basic Guys is one of Fox‘s big new animated TV shows!

The show, which was ordered to series back in November 2022, follows two brothers, Mark and Hank Hoagies, who lose their jobs to automation and are given $3,000 a month in a new basic income program. Now, they’re using their free time and free money to find purpose in a world where they’re no longer needed.

The series is airing its Season 1 finale at 8:30 p.m. Et on Sunday (December 29).

In the season finale, Mark goes into business with Gary & Barry’s Water Ice Shoppe when faced with being deprived of his favorite summer snack during their annual winter closure.

Of course, fans of the new show are wondering if it’ll be given a second season order.

Four years ago, animators Adam and Craig Malamut were thinking about what came next. Their beloved “Game of Zones” (an animated mashup of the modern-day NBA and “Game of Thrones” on Bleacher Report) was ending, and they had some new characters they wanted to bring to life.

“We knew we wanted to bring out these characters and figure out the best setting to put them in and what’s going to feel fresh, especially because the development process takes so long,” Craig Malamut told IndieWire. “[Back then] Andrew Yang was running for president and was talking about universal basic income and AI was in the conversation.”

That was enough of a kernel to prompt “Universal Basic Guys,” the latest addition to Fox’s Sunday night Animation Domination lineup, in which employees at a hot dog factory are left unemployed but with universal basic income — and a lot of free time on their hands.

There’s surely nothing more basic a critic could possibly do than describe a show with “basic” in its name as basic. But it’s difficult to come up with a more fitting word to describe Fox’s Universal Basic Guys, a cartoon that, at least initially, seems rooted in all the hoariest sitcom clichés of the ’90s.

The series, created by Adam and Craig Malamut, does reveal occasional glimmers of a potential to become something more distinctive — typically in moments when it ditches the road well-traveled for stranger, more outlandish and often downright fantastical detours. But such moments are spread too thin over the course of a 13-episode first season better described as fine than fun.

The “basic” in that title actually refers to the concept of Universal Basic Income, which ostensibly drives the plot. As explained in the theme song that opens each episode, South Jersey brothers Mark and Hank Hoagies,...

Truck drivers. Cashiers. Now even movie critics could be among the workers whose jobs are at risk of disappearing due to automation. We probably all hope there will be a plan to look after humans who get replaced in the labor force by some form of robot, and maybe Universal Basic Guys exists to give us a model for the future. If nothing else, it’s a more promising new addition to Fox’s Animation Domination lineup than we’ve seen in years.

Fox just made San Diego Comic-Con a richer experience for one lucky attendee. During Thursday night’s panel promoting the network’s upcoming new animated series “Universal Basic Guys,” Fox passed out a swag bag to everyone in the San Diego Convention Center ballroom. Updated with latest: San Diego Comic-Con released the full schedule for its 2024 edition, which kicks off Thursday and runs July 25-28. Ahead of its Monday-afternoon Upfront presentation to advertisers, Fox also announced a Season 3 renewal for the celebrity competition series Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test and an early Season 2 pick-up for the animated comedy Universal Basic Guys, which was ordered to series back in November of the year 2022.

The series aired its second season at the broadcaster last year. It originally debuted on Fox in May 2021 and was renewed for its second season in August of that year. According to Nielsen data, it was averaging approximately 1 million viewers and a 0.1 rating in adults 18-49 in the Live+7 ratings in its second season. Streaming data for the show is not publicly available. It remains available to stream on both Tubi and Hulu.

The show featured an all-star voice cast that included Lisa Kudrow, Will Forte, Clea DuVall, Nat Faxon, Sharon Horgan, Tony Hale, Sam Richardson and Jason Mantzoukas. The brothers are currently at work on the animated comedy series “Universal Basic Guys,” which was ordered to series at Fox in November 2022. Sony is co-producing the series with Fox Entertainment and Bento Box, the award-winning animation studio owned by Fox. The Malamuts created the series and serve as executive producers.

The Houston Astros defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2022 World Series on Fox to an audience of about 12.5 million people, according to live + same-day Nielsen data.

On Saturday, the six-game series came to an end with a 4-1 victory for the Astros, who secured their second championship title in franchise history with the win. Among the 18-49 demographic, the game scored 3.8 million total viewers and a 2.9 rating.

While it’s still an impressive number for Fox, the final game’s viewership was actually down quite significantly compared to last year, when 14.3 million people watched the Atlanta Braves beat the Astros in a 7-0 game. In the demo, Game 6 of the 2021 World Series had a 3.5 rating, securing an audience of about 4.5 million demo viewers.

The broadcast network has given a series order to a show with the working title of Universal Basic Guys/The Hoagie Bros. from creators Adam and Craig Malamut.
