Fox has greenlit more seasons of three of its adult animated series: “Universal Basic Guys,” “Grimsburg,” and “Krapopolis.”
“Grimsburg” and “Universal Basic Guys” are both returning for Season 3, while “Krapopolis” has been renewed for Season 5.
“Krapopolis,” which has received a Season 5 order ahead of Season 3, “is set in mythical ancient Greece and tells the story of a dysfunctional family of humans, gods and monsters trying to run one of the world’s first cities, while also trying their best to not kill each other in the process. The series centers on Deliria (Hannah Waddingham), goddess of self-destruction and questionable choices. As petty as she is powerful, Deliria is only interested in defending civilization if it means she’ll get more worshipers out of it than her frenemies up on Mt. Olympus,” according to the official description.
Richard Ayoade, Matt Berry, Pam Murphy and Duncan Trussell also star.

Exclusive: Fox is continuing with its animation fix. The network has renewed three of its animated series — Grimsburg, Krapoplis and Universal Basic Guys.
This follows its bumper deal to renew long-running hits The Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers, as well as returning series American Dad, for four more seasons.
Grimsburg, which stars Jon Hamm, is returning for Season 3, Krapopolis returns for Season 5 and Universal Basic Guys is back for Season 3.
Grimsburg, which premiered in January 2024, centers on Marvin Flute (Hamm), who may be the greatest detective ever to catch a cannibal clown and correctly identify a mid-century modern armoire. But there’s one mystery he still can’t crack — himself. To do that he must return to Grimsburg, a town where everyone has a secret or three, and redeem himself in the eyes of his fellow detectives, his ferocious ex-wife and his lovably unstable son.

Four years ago, animators Adam and Craig Malamut were thinking about what came next. Their beloved “Game of Zones” (an animated mashup of the modern-day NBA and “Game of Thrones” on Bleacher Report) was ending, and they had some new characters they wanted to bring to life.
“We knew we wanted to bring out these characters and figure out the best setting to put them in and what’s going to feel fresh, especially because the development process takes so long,” Craig Malamut told IndieWire. “[Back then] Andrew Yang was running for president and was talking about universal basic income and AI was in the conversation.”
That was enough of a kernel to prompt “Universal Basic Guys,” the latest addition to Fox’s Sunday night Animation Domination lineup, in which employees at a hot dog factory are left unemployed but with universal basic income — and a lot of free time on their hands.

Good things come to those who wait, as the old saying goes, which is especially true this week in terms of new movies and shows to watch, which sees the return (after more than two years) of the excellent thriller “The Old Man,” plus the completion (after a month) of the fifth season of “Emily in Paris.” Plus the debut of two shows (“Universal Basic Guys” on Fox and “Three Women” on Starz) that were announced long ago and have had prolonged journeys to your TV screen. But that’s not all! We’ve got a new Lego “Star Wars” series on Disney+ (“Rebuild the Galaxy”), a new YA sci-fi movie on Netflix (“Uglies”) and the streaming premiere of “Civil War,” one of the year’s most controversial movies!

There’s surely nothing more basic a critic could possibly do than describe a show with “basic” in its name as basic. But it’s difficult to come up with a more fitting word to describe Fox’s Universal Basic Guys, a cartoon that, at least initially, seems rooted in all the hoariest sitcom clichés of the ’90s.
The series, created by Adam and Craig Malamut, does reveal occasional glimmers of a potential to become something more distinctive — typically in moments when it ditches the road well-traveled for stranger, more outlandish and often downright fantastical detours. But such moments are spread too thin over the course of a 13-episode first season better described as fine than fun.
The “basic” in that title actually refers to the concept of Universal Basic Income, which ostensibly drives the plot. As explained in the theme song that opens each episode, South Jersey brothers Mark and Hank Hoagies,...

Truck drivers. Cashiers. Now even movie critics could be among the workers whose jobs are at risk of disappearing due to automation. We probably all hope there will be a plan to look after humans who get replaced in the labor force by some form of robot, and maybe Universal Basic Guys exists to give us a model for the future. If nothing else, it’s a more promising new addition to Fox’s Animation Domination lineup than we’ve seen in years.
The show, premiering September 8th, makes its first smart choice by not belaboring its high-concept premise. Instead of wasting a whole episode showing us how it’s come to be, we get an expository theme song performed by protagonist Mark Hoagies: “Well, I used to work in a hot dog factory / Until dem robots came along / And now there is no job for me / But I get...

Fall marks the start of the traditional TV season. And while streaming has made television a year-round spectacle, an avalanche of new and returning series make this autumn feel more special than recent years.
Hollywood’s content contraction, along with the post-pandemic and strike landscape results in less shows overall. But upcoming streaming, cable and broadcast offerings come with such promise that we had to double our traditional preview to fit a fraction of the noteworthy titles set to premiere in the coming months. Ryan Murphy is set to take over the conversation with four new shows across three networks — including FX’s “American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez” and “Grotesquerie,” Netflix’s “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” and ABC’s “Doctor Odyssey” — while returning favorites like “Abbott Elementary,” “The Diplomat” and “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” will keep fans entertained as the air starts to cool. Fox just made San Diego Comic-Con a richer experience for one lucky attendee. During Thursday night’s panel promoting the network’s upcoming new animated series “Universal Basic Guys,” Fox passed out a swag bag to everyone in the San Diego Convention Center ballroom. One of those bags had a special sticker, randomly awarding that winner $3,000.
Actually, because it was shaped like a hot dog, the sticker announced, “You are a weiner.” The $3,000 prize is in line with the concept for “Universal Basic Guys,” which centers on two brothers who work at a hot dog factory — until they lose their jobs to automation and are given $3,000 a month in a new basic income program. The series follows them as they suddenly have a lot of free time and money to pursue some ridiculous adventures.

Family Guy Not Coming Top Fox This Fall

Fox 2024-25 Fall Lineup: Rescue Hi-Surf Gets Post Super Bowl Slot; Accused & 9-1-1: Lone Star Return
Fox was busy over the weekend.
They renewed their remaining drama, The Cleaning Lady, for a 12-episode third season under new showrunners, to start.
The Cleaning Lady, which suffered a great loss when leading man Adan Canto died, was forced to pivot midseason, and it will be pivoting again for its third season.
While we don’t have details, perhaps divesting the original creative team from being so closely related to their story will give the show an opportunity to thrive.
Today, Fox will unveil its content slate for the 2024-2025 television season to the national advertising community during its in-person Upfront Presentation at the Manhattan Center.
That means we get the information on that schedule now and can add the videos after the execs reveal them later this evening.
