Exclusive: QC Entertainment, the company behind Get Out and BlacKkKlansman, has completed the Victoria, BC shoot on horror film The Casket Girls with four major additions to the cast: Mike Colter (Evil), Raúl Castillo (Smile 2), Matt Frewer (Perry Mason), and Thomas Lennon (Reno 911!).

As previously announced, Gabrielle Union leads the ensemble. Lennon also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Robert Ben Garant, his partner on Night at the Museum and numerous other projects, with revisions by Keith Cooper (Anything for Jackson) & Justin Dyck (Anything for Jackson), who directed the film.

The Casket Girls is inspired by true events involving a group of young women sent from France to New Orleans to become brides to French colonists in the early 1700s. If you're a fan of Gabrielle Union, you'll be glad to know that this talented actress has just set her next project. It's a horror film titled The Casket Girls, and she will not only star but also produce.

QC Entertainment is the production company behind the movie. This company is best known for co-producing the hit psychological horror film Get Out. Justin Dyck, who you might recognize as the director of the 2020 supernatural horror flick Anything for Jackson, is signed on to direct. In addition, Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant wrote the film's original script, which Dyck and Keith Cooper later revised.

Justin Dyck, the director behind 2020 horror darling Anything for Jackson, has lined up his next horror feature, The Casket Girls. Deadline reports today that the new movie has found its star in Gabrielle Union.

The Casket Girls was written by Thomas Lennon & Robert Ben Garant (Night at the Museum), with revisions by Keith Cooper (Anything for Jackson) & Dyck.

The story is inspired by a true story, the real-life Casket Girls of New Orleans. The moniker refers to the young women sent from France to New Orleans to become brides to French colonists in the early 1700s, bearing luggage resembling caskets. Because their arrival coincided with an uptick in the city’s murder rate, the girls were blamed and accused of being demons or vampires. The city imprisoned the girls in the attic of the Vatican-controlled Ursuline Convent, which still exists today.

It’s the precise type of historical tale that feels ripe for horror.

The writing duo of Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant are best known for their work on comedies and family friendly projects: Reno 911!, Taxi (2004), The Pacifier, Herbie: Fully Loaded, Let’s Go to Prison, Balls of Fury, Mr. Peabody & Sherman, Baywatch (2017), Night at the Museum, and Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian. But they’ve also written the horror comedy Hell Baby, and Garant has written the horror films The Veil and Jessabelle. So it’s not entirely off brand to hear that they wrote the initial screenplay for the upcoming horror film The Casket Girls, with Gabrielle Union (Breaking In) on board to star and executive produce.

Exclusive: Adam Goldworm’s Aperture Entertainment has signed Kyle McConaghy and Joe DeBoer, a Missouri filmmaking duo whose acclaimed horror thriller Dead Mail will soon have its Canadian premiere in the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto Film Festival.

A grandma and grandpa look to conduct a "reverse exorcism" to bring their grandson back from the grave in Anything for Jackson, and with the new horror movie now on VOD, Digital, DVD, and Blu-ray from Rlje Films (following its release on Shudder), we caught up with director Justin G. Dyck in a new Q&a feature to discuss collaborating with writer Keith Cooper, the eight-year journey to making a horror film, and working with a talented cast headlined by Sheila McCarthy and Julian Richings.

After a successful festival run, Justin G. Dyck’s Anything for Jackson made its debut on Shudder earlier this month. Starring Julian Richings, Sheila McCarthy, and Konstantina Mantelos, the film is centered around a grieving pair of grandparents who kidnap a young woman in hopes of transferring the soul of their deceased grandson into her soon-to-be born child, and as expected, things don’t exactly go according to plan.

Daily Dead recently had the opportunity to speak with Dyck about his latest directorial effort, and he discussed his collaborative process with the film’s writer, Keith Cooper, bringing on his talented ensemble for Anything for Jackson, the inspiration behind the film’s collection of spooky spectres, and more.

There’s something deliciously subversive about the backstory to this offbeat horror film, which was made in Canada. Director Justin G Dyck and screenwriter Keith Cooper have collaborated on a long list of treacly, holiday-themed, made-for-tv movies with titles such as A Very Country Christmas, Christmas With a View and A Christmas Village. Anything for Jackson, however, is a riotously gory, impish inversion of all things yuletide, in that it stars sweet-featured elderly character actors Sheila McCarthy and Julian Richings as grieving grandparents Audrey and Henry Walsh, who kidnap pregnant Shannon Becker (Konstantina Mantelos) in order to perform a satanic ritual on her. The day Audrey (Sheila McCarthy) and Henry Walsh’s (Julian Richings) grandson Jackson died was the day they sold their souls to the Devil—figuratively speaking, of course. It wasn’t until they joined a Satanist church run by a bunch of posers in a community center that the idea to bring him back became more than simply a fantasy. That’s where they learned about an ancient book of dark magic possessing the means to do so and how they might find it. With all questions about its legitimacy evaporated after one of its spells inexplicably helps a dead crow fly again, the time finally arrived to fulfill their intention of transferring Jackson’s soul into another woman’s (Konstantina Mantelos’ Becker) unborn baby so that he may live once more.

We meet this trio on the day of the kidnapping only to learn the Walshs left nothing to chance.

Vortex Words + Pictures has announced that principal photography has been wrapped on their new horror feature Anything for Jackson, which is anticipated to premiere Fall 2020 on Super Channel Fuse in Canada. Filmed on location in Barrie, Ontario, the movie is directed by seasoned filmmaker Justin G. Dyck. "The entire cast and crew attached to this project is beyond incredible and gives me the ultimate confidence as I enter the horror world for the first time as a director," Dyck says in a statement.
