He was featured as the Secretary of the Treasury, in the original Broadway production of Rodgers and Hart's musical FDR satire, "I'd Rather Be Right", starring George M. Cohan in his last Broadway appearance.
He passed away only months after the release of his final film, Walt Disney's "Sleeping Beauty", in which he replaced Hans Conried, the performance model and original actor, as the voice of Princess Aurora's father for the film's final version, King Stefan.
