After studying five years, he left the University of Munich without a degree (1955).

Has been a passionate soccer player for many years.

Has two daughters, Jutta and Ursula, with his late first wife Irene.

Collaborating with Austrian cabaret artist Werner Schneyder, he was one of the few West German artists to perform in East Germany (1985).

Founded the Munich cabaret "Münchner Lach- und Schießgesellschaft" together with Sammy Drechsel (1956).
