Ken Jennings wants viewers to know that the Celebrity Jeopardy! he hosts isn’t the same as what viewers see on Saturday Night Live.
SNL has famously parodied the special installment of the gameshow with some of their famous contestants, including Sean Connery, Katie Lee Gifford, Robin Williams, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Various SNL stars make their impressions of famous people, typically in a hilarious fashion.
They’ve even parodied one of their beloved cast members, as they had Jimmy Fallon appear as a fake Adam Sandler during the 1998 episode’s sketch.
While the parody often portrays celebrities as dumb, Ken praised the recent group of celebrities competing on the real-life Celebrity Jeopardy! he hosts.
“This is like legit. These folks are smart. A lot of them were broadcasters, stand-up comics. We had Neil deGrasse Tyson,” he said Tuesday on Good Morning America.

Ken Jennings was on hilarious form during an appearance on the Tuesday, January 21, episode of Good Morning America. The Jeopardy! host wisecracked his way through a candid conversation with the GMA team, and chimed in on the widespread debate about who should be on the Mount Rushmore of Jeopardy! contestants. However, while naming the four people on his list, he actually left out all of the players who have been brought up in the conversation. Instead, Jennings said his G.O.A.T. list is about the people who remind him of watching the show when he was younger. “I think, for me, there’s too many great contestants to fit on a mountain,” Jennings said. While the GMA hosts insisted that Jennings himself was an obvious choice for the Mount Rushmore list, he added, “My Mount Rushmore would be Alex Trebek — the reasons I liked the show as a kid. The announcer,...

Ken Jennings was one of the most successful Jeopardy! players in history. With all the recent Jeopardy! talk regarding format changes and new rules, host Ken Jennings is hoping the show brings back some specific elements from the show’s vintage era. Jeopardy! executive producer Michael Davies has been opening up about his role on the long-running game show and revealed one of the first changes he made when he stepped into the position. Davies took over at the show earlier this year following the departure of Mike Richards. Speaking on the Inside Jeopardy! podcast, he explained that the first change he made was the location where host Mayim Bialik looks when thanking the show’s long-time announcer Johnny Gilbert. At first, the Call Me Kat star would look out into the audience and thank Gilbert before turning to the camera and introducing the show. However, Davies suggested that Bialik deliver her thanks directly to camera, explaining, “I think on a show about fact, it wasn’t right that we were looking over to an imaginary Johnny.” He continued, “Instead, you know, we thank him, because we should thank him in the beginning of the episode,...

Swifties aren’t able to calm down after contestants on a recent episode of “Jeopardy!” were stumped by the lyrics to one of Taylor Swift’s songs.
During the July 20 episode, host Ken Jennings read the 400 clue in the category “Title That Completes the Rhyme” to a trio of stumped faces. The clue included the lyrics: “And I’m just like oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh (oh) / You need to just stop / Like, can you just not step on my gown?”
The next line in the song is “you need to calm down,” which is also the title of the song. But alas, none of the contestants had an inkling of the correct answer and didn’t even buzz in to try to guess. After five seconds, the timer went off to complete silence.

Mike Richards’ first episode as host of “Jeopardy!” — one of what would end up totaling only five — taped Aug. 19 but only aired, after his ouster, on Monday night. He was introduced by longtime announcer Johnny Gilbert as “the host of ‘Jeopardy!’”; he delivered brief tributes to Gilbert and to his predecessor Alex Trebek up top. And viewers who hadn’t been following the saga of his hiring and eventual firing over the past months might be forgiven for being very confused by a broadcast that offered no clarity about absolutely any of it.
Richards had been the show’s executive producer before he found himself in the middle of a search to replace late emcee Trebek. Jeopardy! is a long-running game show that originally aired on NBC in 1964 through to 1975, then was revived on the same network from 1978 to 1979 before becoming a daily syndicated show produced by Sony Pictures Television from 1984 through to present day.

The original versions of the quiz show, which sees three contestants compete to give an answer in the form of a “what is” or who is” type of question, was originally hosted by Art Fleming. Don Pardo took over after, followed by John Harlan for the 1978/79 season. However, the daily syndicated version has always been hosted by Alex Trebek since it launched in 1984, with Johnny Gilbert as the announcer.
To date, more than 8,000 episodes of the show have aired, and it is considered to be one of the greatest TV shows in American history. This September, the 36th season premiered.

15 years ago today, Elle Woods taught us to bend and snap. Legally Blonde hit theaters on July 13, 2001, giving Reese Witherspoon her breakout role and giving us a movie that put a pink-loving sorority girl in the place where she’s the outcast: law school. Until she proves all her doubters wrong, that is, in the midst of a murder trial, no less. The comedy’s success led to a 2003 sequel and a stage musical that premiered on Broadway in 2007. Other notable July 13 happenings in pop culture history: • 1923: The Hollywood sign, which then read “Hollywoodland,” was officially dedicated. • 1939: Frank Sinatra made his recording debut in a New York studio, singing “From The Bottom Of My Heart” and “Melancholy Mood” with the Harry James Band. • 1964: The Supremes recorded “Come See About Me” in “Hitsville U.S.A.,” Motown’s first headquarters. • 1984: The Muppets Take Manhattan and The Last Starfighter opened in theaters.

The fact that "Jeopardy!" is still on the air is kind of amazing. It is, after all, a syndicated game show that has been running, without interruption, since 1984 (before that it ran from 1964-75 and again for a single season in 1978/79 on NBC) and one that hasn't changed its general format much in that time. Alex Trebek has been hosting and Johnny Gilbert has been announcing and you still have to answer the cards with a question (otherwise, you'll be disqualified yo). And while there have been moments when the general public has become reinvested in the series (remember that albino winner Ken Jennings? Or that weird robot?), it's pretty much stayed the course, grabbing whatever bits of popular culture or societal fads come along the way. Including, it seems, devoting a category to the queen of all things, Beyoncé.

I got the memo about Alex Trebek potentially leaving Jeopardy! in 2016, and that sent my mind into a frenzy (accompanied by the ping-pang-pow sound effect of a Daily Double). Alex Trebek's name is synonymous with Jeopardy! for a reason: He is an astoundingly great host who knows so much trivia and loves the learning process. You might think his knack for accents and correcting contestants is pretentious or annoying, but that discipline is so essential to the dignity and respect of the show's difficult material. Hell, this man hosts the National Geography Bee every year. He is a TV legend and it pains me to think of him departing the series.
But the task becomes a little bit easier when I think of some of the qualified people who could replace him. A few names have been thrown about loudly -- particularly Matt Lauer's and Anderson Cooper's...

All it took was one phone call from Jeopardy! Senior Publicity Coordinator Susie Eun, and I was off and running recently to catch up with Glenn Kagan and some new potential Jeopardy! candidates who were already in a neat formal line, ready for their 9 a.m. session to begin. These candidates had already been screened, and had passed the online test before they even got to the Doubletree. However, they would now have to go through the more formal in-person Jeopardy! test and audition process. How they would fare today would depend on their knowledge; cool, wit, personality, and perhaps to some degree a combination of all the aforementioned.
I caught up with Glenn Kagan, the Contestant Coordinator for Jeopardy!, and asked him how long he has been with Jeopardy!, a show whose origins date back to Merv Griffin and the year 1964 when Lyndon B. Johnson was president.

Welcome to The Vampire Diaries Round Table!
We posted our official Season 3 premiere review last night. Now three TV Fanatic staff members - Dan Forcella, Steve Marsi and Eric Hochberger - have gathered to discuss "The Birthday" in a Round Table format.
As always, reader feedback is encouraged on the following questions and answers...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What was your favorite quote from last night?
Dan: Definitely "It's your party, you can cry if you want to" because it was classic Damon charm with a stone cold demeanor.
Steve: The Season One-evoking "Hello, brother," with the Salvatores now in completely unfamiliar, opposite roles. Awesine.
Eric: Pretty much most of Alaric and Damon's mocking of being at a high school party. It's so easy to forget these are high school kids until Damon mutters something witty about beer pong.
Will Stefan the Ripper ever return to the Stefan of old?
Dan: Of course. That...
Ugo.com has up a fun gallery of game-show hosts and the movie roles they’ve played, both as themselves and — in some cases — in dramatic acting roles you might never have envisioned them in. (Dick Clark as a robber in 1968′s Killers Three? Ack!) What’s most notable to me, though, is the regularity with which Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek once popped up in various movies, from quick drive-bys in 1991′s Dying Young and 2000′s Charlie’s Angels to — my favorite — a hefty subplot in White Men Can’t Jump concerning Rosie Perez’s trivia savant character. (Jeopardy! announcer...
