An Academy Award-nominated classic horror film will hit a major streaming platform next month. Starring the legendary Fredric March, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde debuted in 1931 to critical acclaim and was commercially successful.

Old and new audiences will now experience the 93-year-old masterpiece when Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde arrives on Max on Feb. 1. Directed by Rouben Mamoulian, the movie adapts the famous Robert Louis Stevenson's 1886 novel The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, which tells the tale of a man who takes a potion that turns him from a mild-mannered man of science into a homicidal maniac.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde tweaks the classic source material into a grim portrayal of an abusive and controlling relationship, portraying Hyde as a monster through his destruction of a young woman. Alongside March, the film stars Miriam Hopkins as Ivy Pierson, Rose Hobart as Muriel Carew, Holmes Herbert as Dr.

Since the early days of film, the Western genre has been a staple of the cinema world. Audiences around the world love tuning in for these stories of the West, often featuring cowboys, outlaws, and the sprawling settings of the American frontier. Of course, because of these factors, violence is often a very prominent element of these films. A basic western formula has been combined with good characterization in “High Noon,” making it more of a western drama than the usual outdoor action feature. With the name of Gary Cooper to help it along, and on the basis of the adult-appealing dramatic content, the business outlook is favorable.

The Stanley Kramer production does an excellent job of presenting a picture of a small western town and its people as they wait for a gun duel between the marshal and revenge-seeking killer, an event scheduled for high noon. The mood of the citizens, of Gary Cooper the marshal, and his bride (Grace Kelly), a Quaker who is against all violence, is aptly captured by Fred Zinnemann’s direction and the graphic lensing of Floyd Crosby, which perfectly pictures the heat and dust of the sun-baked locale.

Zinnemann carefully and deliberately makes the most of the mood cast by the threat of impending violence.
